Parkinson's Drug Reduces Disease Markers in Breakthrough Trial
This sounds very promising. However, this drug is only in Phase 1 trial and it is many years to get through Phase 2 and Phase 3. In addition, prior attempts at vaccination against malformed alpha synuclein have failed.
Yes I know. It's still exciting that they continue to try new therapies to fight this horrible disease
so is that the reason why the trial is only enrolling 8 and only at one location?
Sounds good, I hear a lot about the breakthrough developments, then they just disappear.
hopeful but so was Biogen׳s Butenetap after 3 trials and where are they now?
This seems similar to ACImmune's approach of developing a vaccine to sequester or reduce intercellular concentrations of alpha synuclein. acimmune.com/pipeline/clini...
I was skeptical of the whole approach after the early disappointing news about monoclonal antibody infusions (the drugs ending in " ...mab") However the long term studies of prasinezumab now seem to show that it is indeed modestly effective. The people at the clinical trials site I go to who have been administering the infusions agree.
It is great that there is is competition in the vaccine space as it will make it move faster and if the general approach is proved viable by prasinezumab it could come faster.
That's great news as well! I hope you are benefiting from your participation in the trial.
Stacey,
Thanks but unfortunately I was rejected for PADOVA , the follow on for prasinezumab . The same clinic where I did the Buntanetap and Selnoflast studies is also a study site for PADOVA so they have been tracking these people for several years.
I'm sorry to hear that. Did you feel like the other studies were worth your time? Hopefully yet 😀
>worth your time?
That is a complex question that I have written about on other threads. I do not think my disease progression has been directly altered by any drug on the studies I have been involved in. There remains a chance that if Buntanetap or Selnoflast succeed, I would have a chance to get some treatment earlier and at lower cost.
However, in the interim, I have received tremendous care from my neuro team and I find it rewarding to contribute to the overall effort.
To the extent it's part of the research effort that will one day bring home the bacon then it's exciting. But it's another a-syn hoover and they have failed consistently to affect the disease.
Sounds hopeful.
