Weight loss is not primary use for coconut oil. You might want to read Dr. Mary Newport’s book on her husband’s use of it. We used it successfully but it is not a cure all. My own theory is that there are people and conditions which exhibit the inability to process glucose adequately. This is also true with certain animals...race horses, dogs, camels. It causes the animals to ‘tie up’ which affects their gait. It is called polysaccharide myopathy. The animal treatment involves curtailing the first line source of energy (carbs) and substituting the second line which is fat. Certain fats are better than others and animal feed companies which specialize in this know which ones. I believe that is what happens in the use of coconut oil. My husband had a ravenous sweet tooth (a hint that his body is looking for carbs in order to make energy but which he was unable to get, either by process or metabolizing them). When he used coconut oil, that stopped, his gait improved dramatically. He still had PD but I believe it made a huge difference in his function. Remember, there are a multiple of things which can go wrong...PD is not just a single issue. Even if it were to be shown that one bug caused it, the damage can involve all sorts of systems...thyroid, sex drive, movement...all of those systems have to be kept up to maximum function for PD patients. Think of it this way: if you had diabetes, you wouldn’t stop taking your thyroid, cholesterol meds or hormones, would you? There is what is caused the Anchor Effect...once one system goes down, the rest will likely follow. It is necessary to keep all systems at ‘go’! Coconut may not cure PD but if you have certain other systems which are helped by taking it, then do it.
