I recently tried coconut oil to help regain my sense of smell but had terrible abdominal cramps and had to quit. Dosage was 1 ounce. Anyone else with this experience? Did coconut oil help you?
Coconut Oil: I recently tried coconut oil... - Cure Parkinson's
Coconut Oil

I believe 1 ounce is about 2 TBS. 2 TBS is a lot for some people to start with. Try starting with 1 teaspoon (1/3 tablespoon) and slowly work your way up.
Yes indeed it has relieved Parkinson's symptoms for some of us. I should warn you however that the nominal target dosage is usually ~6 TBS per day (evenly divided over the three meals). You can see results with less, it's really up to you. It is generally not advisable to take more than 12 TBS. For one thing it's a lot of calories, it is a natural laxative.
Please use the Search field "coconut" and you will find us.
I take two capsules per day (anytime when I remember) but I did try the oil via a spoon but it just made me feel sick. I bought two large jars but it is nice for making cakes (especially coconut flavoured cakes)

Two capsules per day is about 1/8 of a tablespoon (TBS). Not a very significant dosage.
If you live in US, Fuel For Thought is now available. Each dosage is the equivalent of 3 TBS coconut oil with far fewer calories and tastes great. You can take up to 4 doses per day. But it is pricey.
I was taking Fuel for Thought but the dosage per bottle is 1oz. or 2 tablespoons, 2 times per day. Within 20 min. I was in pain. It's also 110 calories. Where can I get capsules?

Sounds like you have a low tolerence for oil. Did you try taking a teaspoon of Fuel for Thought once per day, and very slowly work your way up over several weeks ?
I hope the capsule idea may solve your stomach cramps but be aware it is a very low dosage for getting symptom relief. I applaud you for doing your best.
It is not the dosage but the fact that capsules are the only way I can take coconut oil and it seems capsules are not available here in the UK. I cannot find a supplier. I limit myself to a small dose. as I get my supply from the US. and it does end up rather pricey.
I was also in a medical study for Cogaine and it was in oil. I had same cramps, etc. while taking this. Apparently I cannot tolerate the oil.
I think it would be a problem to take it without putting it in something. It's great in my tea and porridge and even water. But I started with small amounts and gradually increased it. And my sense of smell is back!!!
Have read Satwar's experience but has anyone else found coconut oil has helped?
Yes, virgin coconut oil (NOTMICROWAVED, BUT THAWED IF NECESSARY BY IMMERSING CONTAINER OF FROZEN COCONUT OIL IN HOT WATER) & starting with one teaspoon twice daily with food (NOT MICROWAVED) increased by weekly intervals to one tablespoon per day, again, increased by weekly intervals to thrice daily....and by now, most of those who can stick that long would have experienced the relief of bradykinesia and easing of muscle spasms.
.And, they like me, would have no problem in slowly increasing the daily consumption to the optimal 2 tablespoonfuls thrice daily, because of the gradually increasing ease ofbradykinesia.
WARNING: since the relief of bradykinesia is so spectacular, if one forgets a dose, one will feel the stiffness returning with vengeance. So, it has become important for me to ensure its availability even when I am on travel status. One has to either have enough supply in the checked luggage and enough in carry on luggage while traveling. It works.
I was very skeptical at the beginning, but I have no doubt it is working for me. Will it work for all? Probably not, because, most adults may not be able to work up to 2 Tablespoonfuls thrice daily. Those with a weak gall bladder, low tolerance for fat etc., cannot tolerate so much (quantity) oil of any kind. Even those who can tolerate 2 TBSPs thrice daily must regulate their diet in order to avoid a lot of weight gain & in some cases loose stools. The latter for me is a godsend, since I have constipation due to my PD.
I am glad, I tried it, and I can vouch for it. I am a retired physician (US Army) who seldom believed in such on-allopathic remedies, until my " intro" to the efficacy of Coconu Oil in PD. it does not "cure" PD, but makes the feelings of suppleness in one's skeletal muscles and ease of my constipation has made me not to dismiss too quickly recommendations of non-allopathic practitioners ( Ayurved, Naturopathy, Acupuncture, Homeopathy, etc) for treating diseases.
The Coconut oil I use is fromBJs: Better Body Organic Coconut Oil.

Please see my reply below on Coconut Oil. Yes, I am a beneficiary of its salutary effect of Coconut Oil on Bradykinesia & Constipation. Not all can tolerate 2 TBSPs of any edible oil thrice daily, not even Cod Liver Oil, I suspect.

Coconut oil can do that to some. Start w tiny amount in oatmeal and work up. It improves energy.
