How is the new PD Drug Xadago?: New drug... - Cure Parkinson's
How is the new PD Drug Xadago?
Someone who used to post here had a very favorable response. It is an MAO-B inhibitor, and is relatively free of serious adverse effects. So, it seems like a reasonable idea.
A friend from the support group has been taking it for approx 6-8 weeks and he said that he has been feeling really good since taking it.
Yes, my husband Alan has been put on it. It's apparently in its fourth trial in the USA and also being trialed here in Australia. Alan has Parkinsons, but not your "garden variety" Parkinson's. He doesn't have a tremor, but has extreme Apathy, low blood pressure, facial mask, balance etc. Anyway , it certainly perked him up. I can't say what it does for other PD patients. I was hoping for a better reaction, but he's certainly better than he was. He got great results from the Neupro patch initially, but after 6 years it's stopped working. Hope this helps. It's all trial and error with PD. (I also believe the B1 has helped him).
Did he have trouble getting off Neupro patch? I have been considering it but hear horror stories about withdrawal symptoms. Thanks
He’s still on the patch. Not sure it does anything now. When he was put on it he’d been diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. The impact of the patch was so dramatic that he was rediagnosed with PD. It took a couple of months to see the change and then WOW. His symptoms were mostly mental and still are really ... extreme Apathy. The possible side effects of the patch can be severe, as in addictions, gambling for one. But the doctors keep monitoring that. Good luck. Gwendoline
