I was taking Endep (which gave me a full night's sleep) but my Neurologist changed me from Stalevo (which was giving me Dyskenesia) to Madopar + Xadago. But I had to cease the Endep as he said it could conflict with the Xadago, which is a fairly new drug that is still being trialled. He prescribed Paxam to replace the Endep but it makes me feel like I have a Hangover the next morning.
I dread bedtime as I know I'm going to be awake every 2 hours.
I agree! Cannabis oil with a higher THC... a few drops before bed and I sleep all night and wake up refreshed. I had trouble staying asleep for years before I started taking it, now my sleep problems are non existent
A friend gave me some Melatonin drops to try as they work extremely well for him. I tried just 4 drops under my tongue. While they were n't unpleasant I developed an uncomfortable taste and sensation in my mouth and I felt nauseous all the next day. I am reluctant to have another try. What do you think?
If you are not allergic (as I unfortunately am) to the ragweed family of herbs/plants/weeds, then chamomile tea or powder may be of help. If you do happen to be allergic, and have atopic skin, you will suffer lots of interminable itching, allergic rhinitis, etc., as will hay and ragweed and the rest of that horrible pollen family.)
Also it has assumed potential benefit of stimulating mao production which can also include increasing serotonin production, including an anti-anxiety effect...though whether these are to any clinically observable extent I do not know. I believe it is definitely worth a look.
Of course if you take the tea route, you may find bladder filling may wake you up mid-sleep. But never mind that for now.
For what it is worth, as a biblio start (that I invite you to finish on your own and report back, and I would start with the references contained at the back of this article) see sciencedirect.com/topics/ag....
Or just try it and see...as long as you are not taking digitalis!!
Gross but healthy! Helps with sleep and constipation. And I noticed the following day after eating onion the tremor gets reduced. Last night I had a perfect sleep after "onion medication" and today I felt almost perfect. For some reasons I do not take it every evening but when I do it helps a lot. Green onion works ,too, and also green garlic (I can take the dried one as it is too strong).
And by the way, the onion helps with REM (ugly dreams) as it gives me nice sweet color dreams.
Here's another idea. Have a plate of basic pasta before bed. I like angel hair myself.
Also the original antihistamine benadryl, for you I'd go 50 mg. It is very high on the drowsiness scale and it won't give you the constipation of that amytryptilene you were on (endep). In fact, Benadryl is often and traditionally given for sleep. Too many years on anything that constipates you equals damage to your colon walls eventually, and if so, it would show up on a colonoscopy.
Good point, that is true...but it does mean years of continued use at more than the lowest mg dose. Shouldn't be for long term sleeping, it is more of an atopic skin itching and "itching" inside the trachea and lungs. Maybe use it as one of the several other ways mentioned in this conversation string.
Also I happened to use the combination pill for melatonin last night, first time in a long time, 5 mg, and it kept me asleep almost 7 hours, which is pretty good for someone in their 60s.
And do try that ion's onion at dinner. Can't hurt, might help.
Have you talked to your doctor again? You have been changed to a benzodiazepine, there could be some reason but it is not working for you. If it was me I would be inclined to look at the amount I am taking and see if I can decrease it or go back to endep.
L-Theanine is an amino acid that has a calming effect. I am using 225mg Organika brand and it can be taken 2x a day but I use one at night with 5 mg melatonin and magnesium glycinate 200mg. No after effect! I would try once in the daytime and once at bedtime or when you wake up at night. I had to do that for awhile. Exercise and stretching during the day sure helps induce sleep also. If I'm inactive for too long insomnia gets worse.
Also: took me a while to think of it, but there are a few melatonin products that combine fast release and slow release to get you to sleep for six hours or better...very good and very natural idea because you produce your own melatonin in the evening precisely because it gets you to sleep.
Typical first gen formula wears off in a couple hours, but the newer combination of fast release and slow release half helps keep you in that non-rem sleep portion that you need so badly to flush out the day's metabolic waste and push some memory in...several science studies confirm memory problems with lack of non-rem sleep so you need to be asleep anyway. And it is very safe. If three mg doesn't do it for you, you can take 6.
Several commercial products. One is called Swanson Ultra dual release melatonin, and there is a more heavily advertised in cable TV media recently too that I can't remember (ha!).
Anyway, your very typical chemist/pharmacy will have it or know how to get it, will be inexpensive as well.
