Entacapone/Comtan question

My husband was just given a prescription for this medication to bridge his off time. I’m not able to find a lot of information on it, as far as how well, or not it is working for folks. He is on C/L 4 to 5 doses a day, and 1 Xadago in the a.m.

Anyone have good or bad experiences with this medication?

My doc added entacapone to extend my “on” time rather than increase C/L. It has helped but is just a stop gap measure.

Thank you for the reply! Do mind if I ask how long you’ve been on it? My husband has been on it for 24 hours and so far, so good. I agree, it is a stop gap measure, but we’re just taking it week to week at this point. Thanks, again for the input.

I tried it for a short time but I had an acute anxiety attack & the only thing new in my life that we could point to as a possible cause was entacapone, so I discontinued its use. I'm very sensitive to medications so it might not be a common effect.

Thank you, I appreciate your input.

I'm sorry it didn't work for you. Hubby's been on it for over 24 hours, but so far, so good. The list of side effects is terrifying, so I really wanted to hear from actual users of the medication. Thank you.

My mother was also placed on comtan. Within just 24 hrs a new tremor in her leg appeared and she started having anxiety attacks. Discontinued after 2 days but it seems the anxiety level remained very high for weeks, she then expressed fear of trying new meds after that experience.

Good to hear that you've gotten some relief from it. Did the anxiety start shortly after you've begun the medication? Fortunately, my husband rarely experiences side effects from any medication he's taken, but he's only been on it for 24 hours. Holding my breath on this one.

Being truthful, I don’t remember how long. Kept on time particularly and tremors to a min but got moody and very short with family. Was erratic. Lasted much longer than just C/l. I also take CDP Choline as recommended by Dr Mischley. I think it helps.

Thank you for your honesty. I will be on the lookout for any mood changes and other possible side effects. Wishing you well!

My husband passed out a couple of weeks after starting comtan. Lowered his blood pressure. A side effect.
