Atrazine a common herbicide is neurotoxic; it reduces dopamine levels in the substantia nigra.

How many people with Parkinson's disease spent a lot of time on the golf course or tending to the perfect lawn? There is no such thing as safe pesticides, it can be less toxic if used with great care, but never safe, and best avoided altogether.

Atrazine is a herbicide of the triazine class. Atrazine is used to prevent pre- and postemergence broadleaf weeds in crops such as maize and sugarcane and on turf, such as golf courses and residential lawns. It is one of the most widely used herbicides in US and Australian agriculture. Wikipedia

You will not see this kind of research coming from the US. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/262...

I came upon this information unintentionally, not looking to start a debate - just posting to inform those who care.

Another important finding.

Sounds like a good thing to stay away from, although the article does not go into at what dose it becomes toxic.

It was just the abstract, you have to pay to read the whole thing.

Atrazine -based herbicides have been illegal in Italy since 1992 due to the fact that it is very soluble in water and is found in significant concentrations both in surface waters and in deep groundwater, sometimes fished for aqueducts. I would worry about what we drink for this reason.

Atrazine and Human Health

pdfs.semanticscholar.org/e5...

"Atrazine can affect health by altering the way of working of the reproductive system. Studies of couples living on farms affected by atrazine found an increase in the risk of pre-term delivery. Atrazine caused changes in blood hormone levels in animals that affected the ability to reproduce. Atrazine affect the reproductive system in humans by a different mechanism. Atrazine also caused liver, kidney, and heart damage in animals and human. An increased risk of developing mammary tumors was observed in one strain of female rats. Not enough information is available to definitely state whether atrazine causes cancer in humans[21]."

An insecticide that has been regarded as safe but is associated with tripling the Parkinson's risk of exposed workers is permethrin. See my writing here:

Do any chemists want to chime in here? Both Atrazine and Roundup use the isoproplyamine salt carrier. Is this the real culprit?
