Off periodes: How to best deal with off... - Cure Parkinson's
Off periodes
My husband is 3 years into his diagnosis... he doesn't always feel up to it during an off period, but forcing himself to exercise, whether it's getting on the treadmill, going for a walk, or working in the garden always makes him feel better, but he really has to push himself. Our neurologist said it was the best thing for you during an off period.
When he takes his C/L (medication) for his PD, he makes a point of biting down on the pill before swallowing. I watched a video a while back that many medications aren't even absorbed thoroughly in the gut because the pill does not dissolve. He claims that this helps him get relief a little faster.
Discuss with your doctor whether it may be time to increase your dose or increase the frequency of the doses.
I have found I get some relief during off periods by reducing the stiffness that always worsens during off periods. Stretching exercises help. A hot bath helps..especially pouring hot water on my legs. Sometimes all I can do is try to sleep until my meds take effect .
Joanne_Joyce,
Epsom salts (magnesium sulphate) in those baths can really help the muscles relax, reduce muscle cramping and generally add to the relaxing effect of the bath soak!
