Skipping doses?

I found med packets on the bathroom counter, with a white pill left in it. So I called the doctor and they said he’s not taking his antipsychotic med. So for 9 months, the reason we went to the doctor last year, means jack ****. He purposely leaves it out.

So I look at his pills, he has the entire case of meds for October under the sink. A week of January, and doses he’s missed along the way of the Carbidopa Levodopa.

I’m beside myself.

So I threw it all under the sink and opened the box he should be on right now.

Is this purposeful? Inability? Stubbornness?

Rant over.

How is he when he does not take his antipsychotic medication? These medications have a lot of undesirable side effects. If he is not being psychotic he is better off without them especially if he has Parkinson's.

Are you able to talk with him about this? Best to work it out between the two of you if you can. Once you tell a doctor he is not taking his meds he is likely get labeled as a noncompliant patient which can have adverse consequences.

Being a carer is not easy.

As park bear says how has he been for the months he has not taken his antipsychotic meds? Maybe he doesn't need them.

I doubt he is doing this on purpose but it is impossible to know without a whole lot more information. All I can say is PD is progressive and it is insidious, and it takes and takes. Our memories are bad, we need assistance often to remember to take meds and good routines. Sounds like he needs a meds review and a clear agreement about who is responsible for what.
