My gait was pretty slow and walking was hard work by the autumn of 2017.

I ‘gave in’ and started on Madopar in November 2017. Prescribed 100/25 3 x pd (though now generally get by on 2x pd.)

Didn’t seem like an immediate fix but gradually improved all my symptoms. I then added the B1 thiamine at 4g pd in June 18!and I walk great now. You wouldn’t know from my walk that I had PD - although my left hand tremble is still v noticeable...

Balance is fine too

I was dx in Jan 2016 age 54

I’d suggest reviewing your medications- they ought to be doing better than they are for you.

Also I remain a little sceptical about mucuna - hard to get the correct dose I suspect...

Good luck

I would recommend that you see a physical therapist and do the exercises regularly.

High dose of thiamine hcl (B1) daily and C/L. join my facebook group:

Happy New Year!

Have you heard about the European Parkinson’s Therapy Centre in Italy? One area of their expertise is to provide individual-specific therapies to people with Parkinson’s-related balance and gait issues. While I was there for one week during 2018, one lady in my group who had arrived with a walking stick was able to walk away on her own two legs in a steady and confident way. She later reported that she was also able to reduce her levodopa medication by 1/4 after returning home. All other PWPs in my group of six including myself saw improvements to varying degrees to our gait and walk speed. We each had our own personal trainer for 90 minutes of rigorous daily exercises at the Centre and were given instructions to continue with the same exercises at home.

Here’s the link for the Centre terapiaparkinson.it/en/

Hi mis37. Yes I have been able to overcome most of my Pd symptoms and have lived a normal life since 2002. I was diagnosed with Pd in 1992, but the first symptom started in 1963. If you look at my website reverseparkinsons.net you will be able to contact me and I will tell you all about what I did, at NO COST!

gait improves by walking, especially on treadmill

on treadmill slow foot cannot drag

standing on one foot for balance

while waiting for car to fill with gas

while waiting in line at Target

compete with grandkids standing on one foot the longest

(I have gotten to where I can hold my own with 8 year old granddaughter

that has been in gymnastics for 4 years :)

Stand and put on underwear

stand next to bed, just in case :)

might take a minute or two

if tremors add to challenge

just one of those things I used to take for granted before old age set in

Love > hate

Definitely exercise. I have to try some of those steps listed above though. Particularly standing on 1 foot.

My gait is fairly good these days. I do drag my right leg a little if I’m overtired. I march in place daily - high steps. It helps my gait, but practicing lifting my legs higher also reduces the likelihood of tripping and falling when walking at a normal pace. I also take 1-1/2 carbidopa-levodopa 3 times daily.

A combination of c/l on a regular schedule plus PD Warriors improves my balance and gait a lot.
