I have both ET and PD Recently have deve... - Cure Parkinson's
I have both ET and PD Recently have developed a cough after talking a few minutes. Any suggestions on what to do?
What is "ET" please?
Essential Tremor Pete.
I don't know how ET is differentiated from Parkinsons Tremor, can you explain nursepat?
I also have both. Was diagnosed with ET in 2000, but have had as long as I can remember. Also neurological. Does not have any other effect besides tremor. Also called Familial Tremor as it is hereditary. Was diagnosed with PD in 2008 (YOPD) after rotator cuff surgery. As for the cough? Maybe small sugar free candies would help?
Tremors can be severe, but are with movement not at rest. as with PD. At rest, I had no tremor., but could not lift a spoon , put a key in a lock, comb my hair,, or write without severe tremor. I had DBS (deep brain stimulation) which worked well for about 1 1/2 years.
I then developed the typical parkinson's tremor.as well as other symptoms'
The candies seem to help, but as soon as they are gone and I start talking the cough returns.
Thanks for this. A double whamy, i am sorry to read and seems very disabling.
We can have kinetic tremor as well as resting tremor in PD. See

Sorry i don't have any ideas about your cough.
for me an unscientific answer.............. do you take Inderal for et are you wheezy. does the dbs not help parkiinsons,,I have a similar coughy thing secret is not to allow it to start. try continuously swallowing ,or gargle with just water holding water as long as poss its like somethings irritating massaging throat helps stop it
I do not take inderal as it affected my heart rate, am not wheezy, lungs are clear, just the cough. Will try your suggestions.
The probe is placed in a different place for parkinsons. There are three main areas that it can be placed, Mine was placed for the et. I am considering having it done again with different placement.
I had a chronic cough for years. Diagnosis of PD and high blood pressure occured at the same time. I thought it was reaction to Mirapex that caused the cough. I switched to Sinemet instead after 2 years. But later realized that I was reacting to the blood pressure medicine - Triamtiline. But first, after taking a generic acid reflux medicine, purchased at Target, stopped the cough. I had tried everything and visited dr.s for this cough. Now, I don't even have to take the acid reflux meds.....it's been about 5 years of NO COUGHING. I also take another BP medicine now. Hopefully this helps.
amazing, allnatural. I was at a meeting yesterday and a guy apologized for his constant barking cough. He said he wasn't sick, he had Tourette's. After he said it, he didn't cough.
The pharmacist suggested I try giving my husband Robitussin cough medicine . It certainly has helped .
Some Blood pressure medication can cause a cough . I was on Ramipril for a while and I along with the cough I would heave . It stopped once I changed the Ramipril
maybe there's a problem with swallowing or some saliva is going down your windpipe (trachea).
Also are you getting enough fluids. The other thing can be post-nasal drip. Not everything is PD.
Probably good to discuss with Dr.
Also a constant cough can be a symptom of Asthma.
Why not ask to be referred to a speech therapist? It sounds as if your problem is speech connected and so you need to see an expert!
I was referred to the local NHS speech therapy department and attended a course loosely based on LSVT therapy and found it helpful for my more conventional parkinson's speech issues.
Always worth a try anyway!
