I searched through the posts but could not find any post on the use of Belladonna for treating PD. Belladonna Tincture is used to treat the rigidity, tremor, excessive salivation, and sweating caused by Parkinson's disease. It was the main treatment in 40's and 50's before discovery of Ldopa. This is evident from literature of those times. One of such paper is given in the below link which end with following conclusion (keep in mind that this was published in 1948):
"Symptomatic treatment of postencephalitic Parkinsonism with Bulgarian belladonna root extract is superior to all other medications tried in the past."
I have tried Belladonna, but only in a homeopathic form that was combined with other homeopathic ingredients as a topical pain reliever. It was an effective pain reliever, but belladonna was not the main ingredient.
thanks. We should give it a try with the following caution (copy /paste from webmd)
"Belladonna contains chemicals that cause a drying effect. It also affects the brain and heart. Drying medications called anticholinergic drugs can also cause these effects. Taking belladonna and drying medications together might cause side effects including dry skin, dizziness, low blood pressure, fast heart beat, and other serious side effects. Some of these drying medications include atropine, scopolamine, and some medications used for allergies (antihistamines), and for depression (antidepressants)."
