Hi, I wondered if anyone knows the safest source to purchase Mucuna Pruriens? I am cautious due to all the supplements that are not what they say they are. Interesting site to learn about it: mucunaparkinson.com (I have no affiliation).
Thanks,
Sarah

I’ve been taking Mucuna for symptom relief for about 1.5 years. Having tried many products I’ve settled on 3: Barlow’s 40%, Herbal Island 20%, and Paradise Herbs 15%. The percentages are stated L-Dopa content. All available on Amazon. I’m limiting my total intake to 1gm L-Dopa equivalent per day. A couple things to note: a Mucuna dose only lasts 5-6 hours (same as Sinemet) and is best taken on an empty stomach, one hour before or two hours after a meal. If you follow Sylvestrov on this forum he has some interesting posts on supplements that complement Mucuna, aid absorption and maximize “on-time”, such as green tea extract, Quercetin, and some others. So far, Mucuna is working for me, providing some symptom relief with no side effects.
I like to mix them up because it is my feeling that the"full spectrum" of the herb may have some added benefits. I have no proof of that theory, but it makes sense to me, here's why: SOMETHING in the herb assists the l-dopa to cross the blood brain barrier. We know this because it works. That "something" has not been identified, but it seems to me that the more you purify the extract to get higher percentages of l-dopa the trade off would be against the "full spectrum" of the herb. That is why Barlow's 40% is the highest % l-dopa formula I'm using. I know others are using 100% l-dopa Mucuna. I tried it but for me that did not work as well. If you're taking Sinemet as well then you are getting Carbidopa (COMT inhibitors) in your system so it wouldn't matter as much. Anyhow I hope that makes some sense. -- John G
Those two are Mucuna products which I like and still use at times. The Mucuna product I use most often these days is Barlowe's 40%, which you can get in bulk powder. I have found that one to be quite reliable.
Have you noticed the barlows macuna leaves a black residue in your glass, I been emptying the capsule in a glass of water, and stirring it with metal spoon, maybe it's a reaction to metal. Has this happened to you. Also I find one capsule is to strong, so I've been breaking it up, it gives me Dyskinesia, and two cardopa/levadopa doesn't. Have you experienced Dyskinesia? Thank you. MARIA
I too use the 40% Barlowe’s capsules, and take 4-6 daily. Sometimes I skip a day with no noticeable impact however if I skip two days in a row my movement suffers.
I also use Banyan Botanical liquid tincture which I add to water usually in the morning or evening. Seems to be fast acting. I take it with a capsule or two when I need a quicker result.
