Anyone have experience with drug induced Parkinsonism? I’ve been on high doses of Zoloft for years but my doctor says it can’t be the cause because my symptoms are asymmetric. I have found several studies that found the rate of asymmetry in DIP is around 20%. Any suggestions appreciated. I have very few symptoms and not on any meds other than my Zoloft yet. Thanks!

Drug induced Parkinsonism
I urge you to be evaluated by a Movement Disorder specialist. They should be able to differentiate between drug induced side effects and other diseases. If it is drug induced, discuss alternatives with your prescribing doctor.

Large study has shown it happens with quite a few antidepressants.
I was a heroin junky for quite a long time and I could swear that Is the major reason for my Parkinson’s. And I have mentioned it to every doctor I’ve visited but they will always disagree. I agree with wifeofparky.
As fas as I know only anti-psychotic drugs can produce extra-pyramidal complications which mimics PD symptoms and can be treated quite easily. I don’t think the SSRIs medications like Zoloft can produce the extra-pyramidal complications.
I was Celexa for 4-5 years and back on it again. However, I was having symptoms before I went back on it (a month ago; symptoms began 4 months ago). I guess I’m wondering could there have been a latency period? Not sure of the exact dates but I was on Celexa from about 2010-2014; then off all meds until 2018 of this year; on Mirtazipine for a few months and then Celexa. I’m pretty sure I’m having REM Behavioral Disorder, among with gastric issues, and some shakiness/twitching in hands and fasciculations. Thx in advance
