My dermatologist alerted me this week that Sinemet can raise your risk for melanoma. Okay - bring out the sunscreen!!

Sinemet and Melanoma
I had 3 removed
Thanks for bring this to everyone's attention. My husband has had several removed. This started before he was diagnosed, but of course he already had PD, we just didn't know it. I don't know if is the Sinemet that makes a PWPD for susceptible to skin cancer or if it the PD itself. Which ever makes PWPD more likely, it is very important to be checked and inform all your doctors of the fact, and every time you see him or her. Sometimes we need to educate the doctors, or keep reminding them because they don't always go through a person's whole medical file. By the way wear a hat and if you can stand it a long sleeved shirt. Face and arms seem to be the most susceptible. Ears also.
If you are on sunscreen, remember that it will block Vit D3, so ask your doctor about your D3 status.
Yes - I take adequate D3 - good point!
All PwP have a higher risk of melanoma. Thanks for the reminder...I need to make an appt to get checked. My paternal grandfather died of Melanoma (I think in his 60s) and my dad had PD. I always wonder if my grandfather had PD but was unaware of it at the time and died from melanoma before PD could really manifest.
