Coot18, Your experience makes a lot of sense to me. It sounds like your "daydreaming" state with "the mind somewhere else" simulates the sleeping state, where the mind detaches its attention from the outer senses. And we all know that tremors stop when we fall asleep. On several occasions, I've noticed that my tremors stopped completely for an hour or two when I got deeply engrossed in my mental work. (This couldn't be credited to my meds, which had long since expired in my body.) Advanced meditators/adepts can perhaps go into this detached, tremor-free state--samadhi?--at will but the rest of us have to depend on mental happenstance.
Curious how much mucuna you take? Do you take Comtam along with it to get across the blood brain barrier, or just add it into the mix so that the carbidopa built into your sinemet? I have tried several teaspoons of it in a glass of water in the past, with no noticeable reductions of tremor, bradykinesia, etc. I was really hoping it was going to help.
I’m a 40+ year meditator (TM) and have noticed that if I am not fully OFF at the time, after a few minutes of meditation the tremors often will stop. It’s so strange to notice my tremors get quieter and quieter and then stop. But so far, if I am fully OFF, meditation does not do the trick. Toes, feet, thighs, calves and right arm/hand as well as inner vibration feeling will drive me to distraction if I don’t get up and do engage in some physical activity.
I practiced meditation in the past for about 12 years was very fortunate to live near a residence for monks so I had personal training which is highly recommended. But I am now a SDA who has grandly benefited from eastern traditional meditation I just don't practice with all the mysticism attached to it. Back to the mucuna. I buy from nutrivitashop.com/l-dopa-10...
in the US which sells 100% l-dopa. I take only a 1/4 tsp twice a day otherwise its too much on the digestive system for me. And I just mix in a bit of orange juice or something similar. I've had experiences where I ate right behind it and felt like I was going to die, I think it's the protein you can't mix it with. But I've done alot of trial and error. I'm also 49 I've had symptoms for about 4-5 years that I've noticed but was recently diagnosed. I'm a vegan most of the time when I don't eat a slice of pizza or have breakfast at a diner with my family and opt for eggs and homefries. I also use about 15 powdered herb extracts every day. Check my other posts you'll get more info if not don't hesitate to ask. That's what were here for to help each other in this cause. God bless
so Do I want powdered seeds? leaves? cowhand or velvet bean mucuna?
Interesting the issue with protein in gut at same time
also that warning with sinemet
Sinemet issue has something to do with protein using up the enzymes needed for transfer to bloodstream as I understand it. Always thought problem was simply with lack of transfer. Never heard of severe pain Erniediaz reported when mixing.
I find I can calm my tremors down almost completely if I have the determination to get into a proper meditation. That lasts for a while afterwards. But you can't be doing that all day.
Sorry I didn't mean to cut that short. What was interesting to me was that when I was having an Alexander Technique lesson the same thing happened. I think AT is a way of carrying meditation into your daily activities. And of course AT is good for PD.
I haven't been good at maintaining it though. And I am quite newly diagnosed - 18 months.
I wonder if other people have had a similar experience.
Interesting idea to follow up on. Aiming for that kind of internal stillness which is needed for lucid dreams and for meditation - and achieving it sometimes - stops the depression that thinking too much about pd can induce.
Meditation, Alexander Technique, One with the Universe, Mellow out, Reduce anxiety, end fight or flight state, end fear of safety and of dying,
We are in a rowboat on the Sea of Life. The movement of the boat is affected by God's water and wind currents. God gave us an oar. With our free will, we decide when to row and when to float.
PD is God's gift, not God's curse. A wave that came our way. When do we row with medications and therapies? When do we relax and float?
Dr Hadlock also talks about how a patient never had PD symptoms when relaxing at home, and they showed up when she was at work. When Dr Hadlock asked why she thought that was the case, the patient said something like: "I don't have to be punished when I'm at work." There are other examples in her books.
I don't have a tremor. But I have noticed that at times I can be too aware of my slow motion movement and gait issues and then they get worse. It can be frustrating when the more I try to control it, the more elusive speedy, limp free movement becomes. Alternatively, when I don't think too much about it sometimes I can walk and move almost naturally. So weird!
