Hi there, in order to use mucuna for PD it is necessary to know the LDopa content. Normally this is not known in raw mucuna powder. I have seen estimates from 5% to 15%, and no two batches will be the same.

There is a product out there which is 100% LDopa derived from mucuna, which is essentially the same as the Levadopa you are using at present. The problem with regular meds lies not with the levadopa, but with the Carbidopa.

I followed the Marti Hinz protocol called Amino Acid Therapy and have ended up with LDopa, and 5HTP taking the place of Carbidopa, and various other bits and pieces, and it seems to work ok. However it was very expensive, and took a year or so.

That said, there are folks doing it themselves with some success. If you go back through my previous contributions in this blog, you will find more information. Not sure how to do that, but I think you click on my wee face and follow the links.

Raw mucuna powder is best as opposed to extracts. The reason is that raw powder consists of other nutrients in addition to L.Dopa.
