Nausea

I'm fairly new to our club and have a question. I am taking a small dose of Rasgiline which immediately stopped my symptoms. The issue is I am constantly nauseous to the point of not eating and have trouble sleeping. My DR put me on Zofran which is not working. Does anyone have any suggestions/comments

Rasagiline slows down the destruction of dopamine. We usually think of this happening just in the brain but there is no reason to assume it does not do so in the gut as well. Excess dopamine in the gut causes nausea. So even though you are already taking a low dose of rasagiline you could try decreasing it further, and see if you can find a dose that is still effective for your Parkinson's but does not cause nausea.

Zofran usually works for me, although before I took that, my doc advised an additional 25 mg. a day with each C/L. That beats a hot poker in the eye, but it's not a total improvement.

Domperidone worked wonders. Only had to take it for a week or so and the nausea has never returned. It's not prescribable in the U.S., but my neurologist wrote me a prescription to an online Canadian pharmacy.

I take Azilect ( a brand of ragasilene) and have no issues with it but prescription was filled with ragasilene ( unbranded ) and had nausea so I back on Azilect. Maybe the coating on the ragasilene causing nausea?

It took me some time for the nausea to go- maybe 3 months. I took it (azilect in my case) before bed for a while to help with nausea. It was fairly mild though.

How long have you been taking it?

I have taken it for about a month....still having issues although not all the time as was the case for the first 3 weeks.

Try and press on for a bit longer. I think its worth it if it slows progress. Others on this site will disagree!
