I thought this one had promise. Back to square one.
Failed stem cell trial: I thought this one... - Cure Parkinson's
Failed stem cell trial
there are other trials going on using the person's own stem cells that had been altered.
This was not a stem cell trial swva.
“The NTCells are porcine encapsulated choroid plexus brain cells that provide neuroprotective factors and reduce toxins, derived from a herd of genetically isolated pigs from the even more isolated Auckland Island”.
It was porcine cells implanted in the brain. It was hoped the implant which released a growth factor would encourage dopamine cells to grow. So now this trial and GDNF trial in the UK have not had particularly successful outcomes. Both are based on growth factors as is fast walking.
You are correct. I guess I thought that they were porcine stem cells.
That might be a bit scary, having pig stem cells in your brain. I am imaging a pighuman or maybe a humanpig :).
This is a good review if you havent already seen it.
The whole 'trans-species' aspect of this study always bothered me as well. The notion that the "choroid plexus brain cells" are sourced from a "herd of genetically isolated pigs from the even more isolated Auckland Island", and are then encapsulated to minimize chance of immuno-suppressive/rejection issues, did little to stir interest. Now that their phase II trial has so impressively succeeded in showing how completely useless the pig-brain cells are as a PD therapy, disheartened LivingCell Tech investors may find some consolation in the fact that (as Dr Boreham notes) "the Auckland Island swine make for especially flavoursome bacon."
*Interesting vdo on evolution/current state of regenerative therapies (despite the fact that Prof Barker is betting on the wrong 'horse'). Shinya Yamanaka's IP stem cells is where the future lies: youtube.com/watch?v=Q9-4SMG...

Obviously u have noticed some improvement. ..thats good to hear
