Interaction between supplements and selegiline

I'm on selegiline. Noticed worsening of symptoms when started taking 5-HTP. When checked from WebMD , it was confirmed that it is a result of interaction between the two. Wondering if there are supplements also that interact with PD medications. I guess that there may be some excel sheet or table available for all the possible interactions

Yes, you cannot take vitamin B6 at the same time as any medicine containing carbidopa or benserazide (i.e. Sinemet, Rytary, Madopar). If taken together they bind and neutralize each other. Allow at least 2 hours between taking these two. More discussion here: healthunlocked.com/parkinso...

Multivitamins contain B6 and there is also some in Emergen-C.

How many mg of vit B6 is safe before it reaches a level to bind and neutralize C/L?

If B6 and carbidopa molecules meet up they will bind and neutralize each other one to one. B6 is a bit lighter - 1 g of B6 will neutralize 1.34 grams of carbidopa. So if you are taking 25 mg of carbidopa 18 mg of B6 is in theory enough to neutralize it, if they meet up and mix in close quarters like the stomach. Once B6 is in general circulation, carbidopa mostly neutralizes the amino acid decarboxylase that is in the G.I. tract, which is its intended purpose.

At my evening dose, I excluded Multi-B which contains 6mg vit B6. Two hours on, I suspect I noticed an improvement, ever so slight.

Sinemet oral + Vitamin B-6 oral

Vitamin B-6 oral decreases levels of Sinemet oral by speeding up drug metabolism

Additional Information:

Interaction does not occur if taken with carbidopa

B6 doesn't bind carbidopa. It encourages conversion of l-dopa to dopamine. Carbidopa works by preventing peripheral conversion, thus leaving more to convert in the brain. Carbidopa does this by interfering with B6. People taking carbidopa may have B6 deficiencies which can cause other problems.

3 of your 5 sentences are flat out wrong. I will not waste time with further debate.
