Hi all
My latest vlog, about Stress and Anxiety in Parkinson's Disease.
Cheers,
Ian
Thank you for this, Ian. According to the Parkinson's Foundation 25 to 45% of people experience anxiety at some point related to a change in brain chemistry. Many of these people experience anxiety before they even know what the diagnosis is and it is not related to being diagnosed with PD. This symptom can also be more troublesome then the movement disorder symptoms. I consider my Lexapro just another one of my PD meds. I had never had anxiety until my symptoms started showing up two to four years before I was diagnosed. Thank you as always for educating people in such an entertaining personal way.
I think the M. J. Fox Show would be still on the air if Ian was the next door neighbor. His smile could be his trade mark.
I too get stress and anxiety. I am a Church Warden looking after The building, fund raising weekly running and finances.
I was diagnosed 2013.
I can stand up and do comedy ( based on PD and life in general) to raise money.
I keep my garden tidy .
So why can't I do the little things like tie my shoe laces or pee into the toilet without splattering the floor of the bathroom.
Recently Everything was going fine at Church then one person who doesn't understand PD put pressure on me at a (bad time).
For crying out loud. I am only a volunteer like the rest of the congregation.
I had to put the phone down on her.
I got upset by her remarks of.."If you can't handle the job give it up."
This dashed my confidence and I withdrew from public life for a few weeks .
The rest of the congregation and priests came to my support and unanimously voted me in for another year as CW
I suppose you always get one but that one negative experience does a lot to bring you down.
I am slowly getting back to my old self.
Like you said Ian don't get into stressful situations. But I'm not going to crawl under a stone just yet.
MH-1
Available for your fund raising efforts throughput the North of England. Key board and old fashioned comedy . Expenses only.
Don't let individuals that haven't a clue get to you. You're attitude encourages others challenged by disease or difficulties to press on.
I too find negative input from other people pretty impossible to rise above. I can only assume that dopamine is a chemical that allows people to float above that particular layer of BS in life. I mend the fences between myself and others as quickly as possible nowadays and apologize if I think I have done anything to cause a rift because I simply cannot abide the emotional kerfuffle that conflict brings on.
It's important to remember that there are people in this world who thrive on that conflict and to protect ourselves from it. It sounds like you are making a wonderful and valuable contribution to your community. Keep it up!
Thanks Ian... very helpful....
Ian can be the Wilson to Tim Allan's Home improvement but instead of handing advice over a fence he would not move from his brown couch, dishing out sage advice with a smile.
