Constipation: Give me some ideas how you... - Cure Parkinson's
Constipation
Cooled Orange juice, (half a liter +) drank slowly first thing in the morning.
Pause in between each swallowed mouthful long enough to feel it perculate beyond the stomach into the lower reaches. The chill on the warm intestine wall should help in encouraging the Natural rhythm in movements down through the bowel .

Here is how I managed to solve this problem:
This is my own experience with constipation over the past fifty years. I have taken every over-the-counter-remedies for constipation with good results, but within a varying period of time the remedies needed to be increased in order to get the result required. But nothing changed the actual constipation. It has continued to need medication in order to overcome the problem.
That was until I found that I sometimes felt the need to have a bowel motion but could not get it to happen, no matter how hard I pushed down. Most times, Pd seems to have affected my brain’s ability to send the message that my stomach was ready to have a bowel motion.
Then I found that if I massaged the anus with a wad of toilet paper I was able to get the muscle of the sphincter to relax and I was able to pass a motion. If I did this every day at more or less the same time, my stomach worked every day, with one or two exceptions. When I say a wad of toilet paper, I mean that I take about fifty centimetres of 2-ply toilet tissue and fold it over four times until it is 32 ply and place this over the two middle fingers of my hand. I then press it against the anus and gently massage the rectum, while pressing down with my stomach muscles. I can successfully get the sphincter to relax and allow the stool to exit.
This meant that the culprit for the constipation was the fact that I seldom if ever get the message from my brain that my stomach needs to work, and the sphincter does not relax while trying to pass a bowel motion. I am aware that the process of peristalsis does not necessarily work anymore with Pd either, but with all the exercise I do, I don’t think that is a major problem.
The toilet paper is very abrasive and should not be rubbed against the skin around the rectum as it can cause bleeding. Just hold the paper firmly against the rectum and move the flesh gently while pressing upwards with your fingers. The paper prevents the fingers from penetrating the rectum and it keeps the fingers clean.
Good luck!
john I think it would be helpful if advice given would include experience ( how many months or years this has worked for an individual and how severe are their symptoms). You have several times as much experience as any other PWPs.
I only discovered this 3 or 4 years ago. At that time I had been taking Movicol at least once a week to clear my bowels. I had had this problem going back for more than 30 years.
Since doing what I suggested I have only needed to resort to using movicol once in about 3 months, and only then because I was too busy to sit down one day and allowed the stools to go hard and impossible to move.
Give it a try, it costs nothing!
Mostly I can manage constipation by eating prunes and 2 to 3 kiwi fruit aday. If that fail I masage but with disposable gloves not abrasive as toilet paper However if l keepup with the above its not needed.
I use Natural Calm 2 tsp twice daily. Start with 2 tsp before bedtime mixed in hot water enough to fizz then add to tart cherry juice for a restful sleep. I also take 3 tablespoons Virgin coconut oil daily.
Fresh ginger grained in yogurt or in a juice
Lots of fruit and a stool softener.
As mentioned before, those with PD lose their sense of thirst and often don't drink enough water. Make it a habit to drink more water.
More water!!!
Coconut Oil... 2 to 3 tablespoons/day. You can put it in your coffee, anything you like. Also Sennakot helps, but ask your doctor how long you may take it.
Two suggestions:
Miralax - one capful dissolved a tall glass of water every 2-3 days works wonderfully
Use a Squatty Potty & place it as indicated which raises your feet up and positions
your body in a more natural position to place pressure on your defecating activity and trains and stimulates your bowels to to move.
