The therapy makes dopamine-producing cells from those already in the brain, meaning patients will not reject them, which is a risk with transplants, he said.

Although the potential cure could transform Parkinson's treatment, scientists warn further animal studies are needed before the approach can be tried in humans.

Professor David Dexter, deputy director, Parkinson's UK said: 'Further development of this technique is now needed,' the BBC reported

This is good news, but it will take many years before it gets onto the market, but it might not.

Not many people are aware that our brains produce a natural protein called GDNF, which REPAIRS the damaged brain cells and that then helps us to produce more dopamine, which then reduces our symptoms to a much lower level. Why does this not CURE Pd? It does nothing to stop Pd from damaging more brain cells, but if we produce more GDNF and repair more brain cells than the pd is damaging, we get a great deal better. In this article, it is stated that Pd kills the dopamine producing cells, which is not correct. It causes them to fill up with another protein called Alpha Sinuclein, which stops the cell from producing dopamine. You cannot repair dead cells. They get removed by the process of apoptosis.

How do we produce more GDNF? This has not been proved yet in scientific studies because nobody is prepared to pay for studies that would take away the need for Pd medication. I have not needed any Pd medication since 2002. I have lived a normal life again since 2002, completely Pd drug-free. Now who wants that to happen?

How have I been able to do this? I started to do FAST WALKING in 1994, when I also started to take a mono-therapy of an MAO-b inhibitor called Eldepryl. After 8 years of walking and taking the Eldepryl, I was able to live a normal life again, Pd drug-free. I am now 82 years old and going strong. I have been tested by 4 different neurologists, the most recent one was in 2015. They all had no doubt that I do have Pd. Dr Norman Doidge came to see me in 2011 and he has written a book entitled, "The Brain's Way of Healing" and in it he devoted chapter 2 to my story. He also made a documentary film on the book, in which I took part. I have not had any support from the medical prfession up till now because what I am doing is not in the medical books yet, but it soon will be.

I walk for one hour, three times a week. There are no side effects and it costs me nothing. I have avoided obesity, heart problems, diabetes and many other health problems that come about because of lack of exercise.

If you would like to read more about my story you can look at my website, reverseparkinsons.net. In it you will find over 400 articles on how to overcome many of the symptoms of Pd. My book tells the story and how you can also do this. I have been going all over the English-speaking world to show people with walking problems, even those in wheelchairs, how to walk properly, immediately. Yes! That may sound like a ridiculous claim but it is perfectly true and over 10 000 people have witnessed this happening. I do not charge a cent for what I do but I do ask people to help me pay for the cost of getting to them.

I have had to cancel my latest trip because I suddenly developed atrial fibrillation, which only took me 3 days to get right. I still have to go in for further tests before I can undertake the next speaking tour. I have walked 5 kilometres every second day since the fibrillation was back under control, and am feeling 100%.
