If we take levadopa to replace dopamine does that affect the other amino acids that work in our brain. Will this make the other aminos out of balance. Any thoughts.

If I wake up and see the sky.

There's no reason to ask why.

Are some meds good or some meds bad.

If I see a rainbow then I'll be glad .

The name on the box doesn't matter a jot.

Before PD I never knew that lot.

So why do we ask these silly questions.

Only adding to our frustrations.

We are not doctors or medics after all.

The need to know is driving us up the wall.

Don't ask and wonder why.

As long as we can look up to the sky.

Perspective on the relationship between levodopa and dopamine.. The dopamine of interest in PD is produced by neorons located in the Black Nucleus in the Brain. This is the result of a series or string of chemical reactions. Levodop is one of he chemicals in the string.. Think of it as one of the chemical reactants necessay for the product dopamine. Dopamine is produced in the brain and remains there,, because it can not pass through the membrane that effects the blood brain barrier.? We don't take doppamine itself in pills because it cannot get into the brain. Not only is levodopa one of the che4micals that are part of the strins producing dopamine neurons, levodopa can pass both from the gut into the blood and then through th blood brain brrier into the brain where the neurons in the black nuclus are located. Where other amino acids come into the picture is that some can compete for passage from the gut into the blood. This is the reason that when I take senement, it is only after fasting for one hour. To avoid any competition with the levodopa passing out of the gut.

Amino acids? I am not sure. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter, which is why levodopa is prescribed to rectify the shortage by allowing a precursor of dopamine into the brain to replace what we need. And certain agonists which slot into receptors and fool them into believing that dopamine is present. So perhaps the question should be about whether other neurotransmitters get thrown out of whack?
