I have been lurking on this site for quite awhile and decided to introduce myself and tell my story with the hope of encouraging others . I am 71 and was diagnosed in May of 2017. I felt I was living in slow motion with little energy and lots of confused thoughts. Fortunately I have a doctor who supports alternative and natural supplements. I did go to a neurologist who confirmed the diagnosis and said I would be good for about five years. I left feeling hopeless.I returned to my regular doctor and he tested my neuro transmitters. He recommended tyrosine, and gaba.
I listened to a podcast on Sam-e. blog.parkinsonsrecovery.com... I added it to my supplements andI began to feel better. Then I read about high dose thiamine which I started in March 2018. I got my energy back. I now swing my arm when I walk and turn more easily in bed. My doctor says my facial expression has returned and I feel so much better.
I added fast walking daily and try to eat a good diet. I still have a slight tremor and have difficulty with writing but overall, I feel that am so much better. I am experimenting with mucana and keep a positive attitude. Thank you to all on this forum who continually post advice and encouragement. You have been so helpful .
The one bit of advice I got from neurologist was: Don’t let Parkinsons define you. I haven’t.

I am too late for Elder Morrison. Elder Alexander B. Morrison, a scientist who fought against hunger and disease and later served in the Quorums of the Seventy for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for more than 14 years, died quietly at home on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, after a long and valiant battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 87.
davissw,
Congratulations on very good results and symptom relief and thank you for posting your results!
Sometimes members post that they are getting started with thiamine and then we never hear anything more from them, so it is very much appreciated when the members do post their results!
If you have time, could you add your results to the page where many members have posted their results from using thiamine at this link :
If you don't have time, just let me know and I will copy and paste it to the other thread.
Thank You!

Hi, Good to hear you are taking supplements and doing better.
From a recent study, I read that a deficiency of GABA CAUSES PARKINSON'S
DISEASE. I was shocked. GABA is a Food. A SuperFood they said.
So it is available in any health food store and any online vitamin or supplement
store for less than $20. The maximum allowed in each capsule is 780mg. I take 2 at night
since a good amount to take is 2,000 mg. I found this out during my online research.
GABA is a natural neurotransmitter in the brain. It also has a great additional
effect, it is great for insomnia! Since I have suffered from insomnia, I take one at bedtime and another if I wake up at night. And I take L-theanine at bedtime also, 100 mg. I sleep well now!

Can you post a link to the study you are referring to?
Thank you.

I had no idea I would be talking about this.
First, I sent the link to Michael J Fox Foundation with my text.
Presently, I am trying to find the link. It was a one page study I found online called "Scientific Study of Super Foods". It talked about GABA, l-theanine, and several others.
As soon as I can locate it, i will send it to you. Also you can try looking it up on line.
If you have Parkinson's look up Dr Bruce Fife on you tube and his books you'll be surprised at what he says!
I’m curious to know how your doctor tested your neurotransmitters?
I dont know if you are taking tyrosine at the moment or not but if you are may i recomend you monitor your blood pressure. i believe it can raise it in some people.
My doctor gave me a kit from NeuroLab which tested my neurotransmitter through urine and my cortisol levels by saliva. I sent it in and received a report that showed the levels of the different neurotransmitters. My doctor went over the results and made recommendations. I've done this twice in the past year and my insurance covered it. I haven't had any problem with tyrosine.
