Tai Chi for PwP, Caretakers, friends...

Hi! I have a PD story like most of you. I was diagnosed in 2008 with Young Onset PD. After that I decided to follow a dream of helping others by becoming a certified Pilates instructor which now has morphed into me being an online health and fitness coach!

I am starting an online Motivational and Accountability Tai Chi group for PwP, their friends, caretakers and anyone else interested. Tai Chi is especially good for PD because it works on balance, agility and mobility. We will all be following a DVD program called Tai Cheng in the comfort of our own homes and talk about it and nutrition online in a private "secret" Facebook group. Developed with Dr. Mark Cheng, this whole-body fitness program combines the 18 fundamental moves of Tai Chi with 21st century sports science. Through this low-impact workout, you can renew your youthful range of motion. It’s the natural solution to help relieve pain. Ask me and I’ll tell you more either here or email me at DebraPilates@comcast.net Let's have fun working out together!

Great idea,

questions - will it cost? Will the group meet at a set time on line, I'm wondering about different time zones internationally.

Awesome question. I believe in being very transparent and upfront about costs. The short reply is yes there is a cost.

Everyone will join in a "secret" Facebook group (an invitation only group that is not visible to anyone else) and there will be daily check-ins (at a time convenient to each person) where I will share about fitness, nutrition and general self-care. This part is priceless! Motivation and being part of a group like this can make a huge difference!

My coaching is free. I have been certified in all areas of Pilates, been trained in teaching exercise to People with Parkinson's Diseases "PWPD" through Oregon Health Sciences University "OHSU" and trained to teach a program licensed by Stanford to OHSU called Strive to Thrive: Self-care for Chronic Diseases.

The cost for "Challenge Pack" which includes the DVD program, foam roller, strength band, removable tape for the calibration grid and a superfood dense nutritional drink Shakeology. The Tai Cheng 90-day program DVDs and equipment is $59.85. The Shakeology 30-day supply is $129.95. All of the above in a "Challenge Pack" is $160 which saves about $30.

Here's the longer reply with more information:

Ther DVD program that we will all be using in our own homes called Tai Cheng developed by Dr. Mark Cheng, a martial arts master trainer with 3 decades of experience in Tai Chi. He holds a PhD in Chinese medicine and acupuncture and is a licensed acupuncturist, traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, and physical therapy–based corrective exercise expert. Dr. Cheng drew on his years of study and expertise to develop Tai Cheng, combining the ancient martial arts and wellness practices of Tai Chi and Qi Gong (CHEE-kung) with modern sports science and functional movement training.

Tai Cheng isn’t just a Tai Chi instructional video. It’s a fusion of the traditional Chinese martial art with modern functional movement training. Tai Cheng’s mingling of exercise for both body and mind can help you change your health in a profound way.

Neural Reboot—the warm-up you’ll do every day—helps wake up your body, prepare your mind for Tai Cheng practice, and give you a platform of stability, strength, and safety. You’ll learn a workout that promotes balance

and flexibility, helping you feel more energy and less pain.

It includes a foam roller, strength band and removable tape for the calibration grid.

Also included is an amazing nutritional drink called Shakeology which is the tastiest superfood protein drink on the planet! It's a potent vitamin nutrient therapy system derived from whole foods and is more easily assimilated & recognized by the body than ones derived from isolates. It fuels your body with superfoods from around the world and helps restore balance and energy to your whole body.

What makes Shakeology Ultra Premium?

-It’s a nutrient therapy system derived from whole foods

-It has exotic life-giving super foods from around the world, difficult to easily access.

-It has no refined sugars, artificial flavors or chemicals

-Acts like a multi-vitamin

-Is certified low glycemic – anything under 55 is considered low and over 70 is considered high, Shakeology is a 24, as low as most vegetables!

Are you IN??

BillSavid A comment and a Question. For a lot of years before PD crossed my path , I regularly practiced Ta Chi in an organized setting. Although I am 11 years out from diagnosis and and have marled gait problems (associated with having a bad leg injury as a youth. Meanwhile with PD, my Tai Chi experience has been a big help in working balance issues and in meaningfulness experience.

My question is in regards to your DVD Cover. The individual is standing, does this imply that instruction will require participants to exercise standing? Many with PD, don't stand well enough for that to work safely.

Yes, individuals will need to be able to stand but there is a modification provided using a chair for stability.

First a clarification, the DVD shown in blog, was not mine.. However I got a respnse to your question. I was told that standing was required (with some possibility of standing up behind a chair)..

However, found a DVD done entirely from a chair.
