Hi Michaela. I know I have spoken to you on this website before but cannot recall what we said.

You must bear in mind that no two of us is the same. We are all different. Each one of us has a different form of Pd. Pd is not one type of health problem. It is a whole range of health problems.

I took Selegiline for ten years. I have no longer needed to take any Pd medication for the past twelve years! In my mind, Selegiline is the only way to go. But I can be wrong! Maybe Azilect (Rasagiline) is the best way for you. Parkilyne is a generic of Eldepryl, and that might also work for you.

You must not just look to take drugs to help you with your Pd! Fast walking is the only known way of reversing Pd. NO FOOD OR MEDICATION OR SUPPLEMENTS HAVE EVER BEEN TESTED AND PROVEN TO REVERSE PD!

So go for the only known way of reversing your Pd. If you are serious about wanting to help yourself then get my book, 'Reverse Parkinson's Disease' from my website - reverseparkinsons.net. I am not on this website to sell my book but it is the quickest and cheapest way of tackling this terrible problem.

I am not a doctor but only a patient. I have had Pd symptoms since 1963, was diagnosed in 1992 and was free of most of the movement symptoms in 2002. I now live a normal life, at the age of 80 and have to still work at staying healthy by continuing to do all the things I specify in my book. I personally send the book to you and I offer to answer any questions you may have, by email, free of charge, What better offer can you have than that?

Good luck

John

Hi Michaela. I would suggest that you see another neurologist.

Perhaps he is a bit out of date. Older MAO type a's lost favour for various reasons but Type B' like Selegiline circumvented those problems and most medical people are happy to prescribe them.

No, not really. But I wanted to know. What is the "Cheese thing"?

michaela13 profile image
michaela13 in reply toNYC_Ray

Sometimes if you eat too much aged cheese you can get high blood pressure but my neuro said ithat usually this doesn't happen.

Oh, I forgot. I do have low blood pressure but I read somewhere on line that this side-effect was caused by Sinemet, and not Azilect. I am also interested in maybe getting off Sinemet and try something else that doesn't effect my sex life (ED) which is really not good for me right now (wife understands and hasn't complained but I do. And I wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions or home remedies.

Hi - am not on HU that often, but happened to catch your posting/question about a sinemet alternative. I have been taking Zandopa ( mucuna pruriens from India ) for the last 4 years. The mucuna is taken by not only people w Parkinsons, but, mostly for people wanting to boost their sex life - although it's been amazing as a sinemt substitute, I haven't noticed anything exciting for our dead sex life - ha ha. My hubby would have to take the powder as well. It tastes sickeningly sweet, but the Zandopa brand of mucuna is the only brand that works for me. Google it and see what you think. You can ask me specific questions afterwards if you like. I was diagnosed in 2002.

Zandopa without any standard parkinsons meds have been working...along with Ashwagandha, Ubiquinol, Ginko, B12, Folic Acid, E & C...moringa powder

( thanks to allnaturals suggestion) just ordered Keen Mind from AU...they have been using it in clinical trials....anyone else used that yet?

My husband had dangerously low blood pressure, but due to the fact he was not drinking any water at all. Since I have been suggesting (rather strongly) and giving him at least 10-12 glasses a day it seems normal. As far as the sex thing,I wish I c ould get him to stop.He will be 80 in May and it is driving me nuts.No problems there at all. He takes a rather high dose of Stalevo 200 6 times a day and one dose of Azilect with second dose of Stalevo.Starting 1mg of Mirapex again if we can get extra help for prescriptions.Costs are killing us.

Not that long ago, they said that eating/drinking anything "aged", cheese & sauerkraut for example was a no no with Azilect. That has since changed.

I have been on Azilect for just over two years. Overall it has been helpful and thankfully I have not suffered too badly with any of the side effects mentioned, although I am have increasing difficulties with my mobility. However, about a year ago Sinemet was added to the Azilect, my tremor worsened, basic bodily functions were unreliable and later on the nightmares started. I gradually came off Sinemet and most of these side effects ceased, unfortunately my tremor did not return to its previous level. Interestingly, A PD friend of mine has had similar experiences to me but in desperation went back to adding Sinemet to his Azilect this time with far fewer and more manageable side effects.

I could not tolerate Ropinerole or any of the agonists so am on Sinemet and Azilect with no side effects at all. I am very lucky as this combination seems to subdue all my symptoms - so much so that even my consultant says he thinks I look better than ever. I am about to start the drug trial for Exenatide so hope I am helping PD patients in the future.

What is exanitide?

PositivePen profile image
PositivePen in reply tomichaela13

It is a medication already used for diabetes and therefore already approved byNICEin the UK. It has been found to be extremely useful in halting the progress of PD but needs to go through a double blind trial before that is confirmed. I am to be part of that trial.

Just thought I would weigh in on Sinemet and Azilect. I started taking the combination of the two four years ago. When I first started I took 0.5mg Azilect 1X in the morning and 25/100 of the Sinemet 4X a day. Each time I took the Sinemet dose I would suffer from sever painful dyskinesia for an hour or so. My neuro had me start cutting the Sinemet tab in half thinking it may have been too strong for what I needed. Cutting the tablet in half made a huge difference for me! I had very slight dyskinesia after taking the dose and after about an hour that disappeared. Starting just last week we up the Azilect to1 mg but the Sinemet remains the same. One thing you should do when taking Azilect always take it around the same time every day.

When it comes to cheese I still enjoy a piece on a occasion or used in a salad. I even eat chocolate which your told you shouldn't with no ill effect. Everyone is an individual.

Having worked in R&D for several years at the cellular level one thing I can assure you at this time, there is no known way of " reversing" PD. There are ways to minimize it's onset , exercise being the biggest that's because it helps to keep muscle tone .

My question to one person on this site, what test did you have over10 years ago that definitively gave the dx of PD? Even today making definitive diagnosis of PD isn't always clear cut. My other question to you would be at the cellular level what or how does fast walking change the mechanics of the cellular function to reverse PD?

I started azilect on January 22, they say it takes 2 weeks to get into your system. I'm not having any side effects as of yet. My shut downs are reduced big time. I feel like I have a little bit of my life back.

I also have had great success with Axilect been taking it with Madapar. Slight lowering of BP but otherwise really. Great. Keep positive. Sunnysky
