Your Doc likely told you that Azilect is a dopamine uptake inhibitor. So whatever Dopamine we still make, should stay longer. Research in Israel also indicated that Azilect can slow progression of PD. The study was too small for our Fda to approve, but I‘Ll accept a maybe.

I have been taking Azilect for 10 years, have thankfully progressed slowly, and recommend the prescription. However, there is no way I can know if Azilect influenced mY PD.

One other issue. Is cost. My insurance covered the ffirstt 3 months, then i paid near my &20’m

Yes but not in so many words. The problem I’ve been having is that I tried amantadine, and Neupro, and those made my symptoms much worse and the side effects were horrid. It seems as though the Azilect has the same side effects as the patch so I’m not expecting a whole lotta bells and whistle‘s with this.

Rasagaline (Azilect) supposedly has long term PD benefits, not that I'm sure we will ever be able to tell as was noted here by Judy, but the neurologists seem to do think it does some good, or at least no major harm.

Hi MissRitaI have been using Azilect for about 2 years now. I take it in conjunction with Sifrol ER 0.75 every morning prior to heading off on my morning walk with our dogs. It helps give my legs the extra energy I need to help my leg muscles which are weak. (Although I have walked most days for the past 40 years). It does help. I also have restless legs and Azilect seems to help here as well.

Cheers

Hi thanks for the reply. I’ve been on it for three days and quite frankly it has not done one thing. It actually makes me get the jitters as supposed to tremor but I still get the tremor anyway. Someone said in a different thread that it’s meant keeping the brain healthy and slowing the process down possibly. I was also told that it’s supposed to extend the life of the L/C tablet but for me I went from taking three pills a day this past week to almost one every 3 to 4 hours. This is now my third medication besides the L/C tabs. Back to the drawing board!

I know it’s hard. I have 10 L/C a day, 1 Azilect, 1 Sifrol ER .75 and 1 Sifrol ER 0.375 (at bedtime) with Madopar Rapid to take if I have any off times usually in the middle of the night.

New Neuro wants me to try benzhexol if the increase of 2 L/C from 8-10 does not work for my curled feet and suggests DBS may work. Scary stuff for me.

I find all the drugs seem to take time to work for me although L/C worked really quickly when I started. I rarely have tremors now:-).

I hope your meds help you soon.
