When ones stop taking Azilect, do you recommend stopping it cold turkey or gradually like one day on and the next day you off.? I'm almost out of my samples. Azilect has helped but the generic may not be out until after Feb. Just wondering.

Do not stop taking rasagiline without talking to your doctor. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually. If you suddenly stop taking rasagiline, you may experience withdrawal symptoms such as a fever; muscle stiffness; unsteadiness, wobbliness, or lack of coordination; or changes in consciousness. Tell your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms when your dose of rasagiline is decreased.

Thank you for your reply. I'm confused about rasagillene. I understand a generic is not available yet; however my pharmacy has ordered rasaglinne that I'm to pick up for tomorrow. I read rasaglliene is not the generic for azilect but has some things similar. I guess I'm confused. Thank you again for your reply.

I was advised by the issuing pharmacist never to stop taking Azilect suddenly.

Thank you. It's been a cost issue, but pharmacy ordered rasaglinne. Some Web sites state confusing statements whether this is the generic or not. I understand Azilect patent end Feb 7 .

You only take one Azilect a day, so if you come off, you cannot reduce less than one, but at the same time, taking less than one does nothing for you. So, YES, there is no reason to not come straight off.

I have been on Azilect for 20 months. I have surgery coming up. My Neurologist, Pharmacist and GP have all confirmed that stopping Azilect cold turkey is no problem. Reason- it is such a weak drug no weaning is necessary.
