I have been diagnosed with PD 5 years ago. At first I didn't experience any problems and actually have more interest. Lately I have lost interest as well as performance. I am wondering if it is my PD meds........any body have any thoughts.

Hi Exolentz4,

I presume you are a man? - otherwise apologies

In the UK, The NHS prescribes what was Viagra - now known as Sildenafil - to male PwP.

The 100MG tablet works - best to take it up to an hour before when things can "work naturally"

Kind regards

Just another PD symptom.

I suspect that Viagra or its equivalent will help with the physical problems, but disinterest could be a sign of depression. Have you though of that? It is very common in Parkinson's because Parkinson's affects more than just the Dopamine system of the brain but also the mood centres.

I assume you're a female. What is your age (it has an effect on women for certain)? What I know appears to apply to men.

Are you male or female, how old and how long are you dx. What meds are you on? All may be a factor. Whatever the answer, exercise, exercise, exercise!!!

If you're male I can tell you for certain the absence of hormones related to PD effects you. As for meds it looks like Cialis (maintenance dose taken every day) is very helpful but since I'm not married any more can't say for sure whether it works.

PD medications like levodopa/carbidopa and dopamine agonists usually cause an increase in sexual energy and in the case of dopamine agonists they can lead to dangerous impulse disorders. The following article absolutely true though it is hard to wrap your head around the first time you read it:

The supplement used in Indian medicine for Parkinson's in called Zandopa, which is derived from the mucuna pruriens plant, and is also used as an aphrodisiac in Indian culture because it lowers prolactin levels. High prolactin levels are associated with Parkinson's disease and also with sexual dysfunction in men.

Also, Parkinson's is an anhedonic - a condition without pleasure. Lost sense of smell....food does not taste good....lost sex drive.....no much pleasure there.

I blamed it on Lexipro. I talked to my doctor and she is recommending Wellbutrin to see if it makes a difference,
