I am wondering about forced exercise,also wondering about vibration platforms. Anyone ever try one of those motorized bikes, or platforms?

Regarding your question about vibrating platforms, I use mine daily. When used in the morning, it loosens up the rigidity which develops overnight. When meds start wearing thin it helps to keep the dystonia and RLS at bay. I wouldn't be without it. Mine is an "Accuvibe" but assume they are all similar.

I know they are used for others besides PwPD and I think they work.

Those little micro-movements, the quick movements we need to make

when maintaining balance are important to maintain or reclaim.

Off topic but we just has a yoga instructor speak and present

on yoga at our PD group last month and she was recommending (and demonstrated)

the small yoga balls that you roll around under your feet when you are seated.

Or you do it with one foot while you stand on the other. (Hold on if you need to).

This is good for people to maintain the sensation on the soles of their feet

and deal with plantar fasciitis, etc.

I do exercise with small balls routinely as a remedy for cramp in the feet. It enables you to stretch the foot without provoking the cramps you are trying to alleviate.

I believe passive vibration exercise was originally developed for bed bound patients. I know of a hill walker who had become very stiff prior to dx. who was able to get back to hill walking after regularly using a toning table Power plates seem to have replaced toning tables and I'm not sure how safe I would feel on them. One of the many things I've not got round to.

Have Theracycle, motorized stationary exercise bike Look it up on Google). Computer controls pedaling speed and duration. Targets from Dr Albert's (Cleveland Clinic) Research are 90 cycles per minute (14 mph) pedaling for 40 minutes. Warm up and cool off extra. Have bad knee, sometimes limits targets, however since ride most days weekly total are exceeded.. Look up research on Youtube. Goal is to maintain current level of meds on going which are function of degree of symptoms. I am in 10th year diagnosed, one year on current meds (1mg Requip x3, 25/100 Sinemet x 3, 5mg Selegiline x 2. As shown in Research PET Scans, I am convinced on effect on my symptoms. Other benefit is major impact on standing and walking leg strength as well as cardo pulse rate.being

at age goal during exercise.

Note, between of my bad knee and also that I have COPD, I am limited in the forms of Forced Exercise available to myself. For the more physically able, many other options for Forced Exercise are available.

Hi Bill David, the Theracycle seems as though it might be expensive. I bought what looks like a similar device on Amazon for £25 & it is suiting me fine. I had foot surgery last October & a heart attack in November so my exercise regime has been restricted. I have found my knee & ankle joints more supple & my feet more flexible plus I get the general benefit.
