my husband has a problem with excess saliva, i know this is a symptom of pd, but i also think it is down to other meds. any suggestions.

Yes it can be a symptom of Parkinson's, but can often be controlled with medication. How long since he was diagnosed and what medication is he on? It maybe that he is under medicated.

Hi norton.
Husband dx 28yrs ago at the age of 35. Coped well until 18months ago, started getting hallucinations.
Taken off most if his meds, just left with sinemet cr. madopar dis as and when. Now lost most if his mobility and independence.
Hello Macelott2
My, you both have had to contend with so much, over a long period of time. Whilst, I could be wrong, I suspect that a readjustment of his medication may be necessary. I experienced drooling for some weeks a while ago, but increased my Sinemet a little and now do not have a problem. However, on reading your husband's PD history, it seems that it would be best to consult your husband's neurologist.

Hi norton
Saw pd nurse last week, same out come as the last few visits, they are very limited as to what they can give him because of the hallucinations prob.
He is on anti depr & medication for memory, I think they maybe making it worse. Vicious circle !!
Normally everyone accumulates saliva in the mouth and an automatic response is to swallow that saliva without any conscious action.
I believe that the problem is that the automatic swallow is not working properly and this is shown by a dribble. This feels like an over production but the rate of saliva released from salivary glands is not changed, rather the rate of removal is changed.
This theory was confirmed to me by a medical person and it seems odd to me that the excess production idea persists. I wonder if this theory is correct or could it be a bit of both, perhaps?
My neuro D.O. will give a botox shot which lasts for 3 months
