My PET scan showed "a very mild" reduction in Glucose metabolism in a section of my brain, so.. that's when I thought that my brain should try metabolizing something else! I have been on the ketogenic diet for about a month. Ihave noticed some modest improvemens in my PD symptoms. I can strum my guitar again, whereas before I had lost my rythm (my right elbow wanted to stay rigid). My keyboard typing has improved too. I have been able to consistently stay in the Moderate zone on the ketostix, but wondder if anyone else out there has tried this AND if the level of ketones is proportional to the benefit.

The science is not firm on this one yet although anecdotally there is a spread of opinions. Some people have reported some improvements, some no changes and some, definitely not for them. A 20 volunteer study is recruiting in the UK so we should get some clearer results in the future with perhaps some better narrowing of the field as to who would benefit and who would not.

There is plenty of discussion on this diet but no detail as to what one can eat with a few details Please Ryan12

what one can eat with many details:

Measured:

Ketostix - ketostix measured small to moderate urine ketones. 40 mg/dL

Serum Meter - attaining blood ketone levels of 0.5-3.0 millimolar is required to be considered in a state of nutritional ketosis or ketone adaptive.

I have been on Elaine Cantine Kdiet and coconut oil for about a year now and couldn't be happier. I do a really strict diet and exercise/breathing routine with great results as I have cancer as well. Stopped Sinemet and am using natural form that I can adjust as needed. I stay in a high state of Ketosis all the time and I enjoy the food. It is a tough diet for most people to do but it works for me.

I started on a KD in November 2013. I highly recommend reading "The Art & Science of Low Carbohydrate Living" by Phinney & Voleck. I suffer from a 14 year tremor dominant symptom. I incorporate coconut oil in my diet and severely restrict carbohydrates (less than 10 g per day)and restrict protein to 60 g per day. I used to consume 10-12 TBS coconut oil per day but I have experienced a more consistent quality of life from reduction of tremor under the KD with 4-6 TBS coconut oil. Unfortunately stress still brings the tremor back. My fasting serum ketones (before breakfast) is from 1 to 4.5 mM/liter, and varies a lot during the day, which I am trying to control with ketone supplementation (coconut oil, C-8 MCT oil, keytone salts). I find that I experience a distinct level of calmness when I'm at 3 mM/liter or better, but it is difficult for me to consistently achieve this. When the ketones are in abundance I am able to experience tremors of a magnitude similar to what I was experiencing before I was diagnosed with PD.

An encouraging feasibility study was conducted in 2005 with PD:
