Has anyone had a D.a.T. scan for Parkinso... - Cure Parkinson's
Has anyone had a D.a.T. scan for Parkinson's? What does it show?
I had this scan a few months ago. It confirmed diagnosis of Parkinson's for the doctors. To me, and I'm looking now at a paper copy, it meant nothing. It's a picture of my brain.
hi lady purple , i had a dat scan 6 yrs ago this mth ,it is an injection into your arm of nucleur medacine that after about 2 hrs u get a scan that shows the part of the brain that cells produce dopamine. When about 80 per cent of these cells are gone people start to get symptoms and they know by the scan if there is a loss of these cells ,its the only scan that can diognois parkinsons disease . .
I had it done to confirm Parkinson's, as some of my symptoms were atypical.
I also presented atypically with dystonia and bradykinesia without tremors. The test confirmed PD.
Dat confirms the differential diagnosis between essential tremor and Parkinson's and is the defined diagnostic tool. If there is and depletion in dopamine then you probably have a movement disorder such as parkinsons. The fingers used demonstrate the level of depletion and whether it is unateral or bilateral.
Hi ladypurple, yes my hbby had one it shows protien on the brain and it also tells them a lot of other things as well, it also showed my hubby had lewybody dementia, which also can come with parkinsons so they are a good thing to have at least you know whats going on . Hope this helps you they are ok to have no problems with that but its the best scan you will get better than an ordinary m.r.i xx
