Hi

Budesonide is usually used for end large bowel/rectal disease. it has the advantage of having less serious side effects than prednisolone but is not as effective for treating small bowel disease. steroids usually act pretty quick so I would of thought you would of seen some improvement by now

That dose usually works pretty quickly for me, certainly within a few days. Maybe you should speak to your doctor to see if you should continue as you are, or try something different. Clemmie

Hi

I had budesonide for crohn's in terminal ileum. I had the 3 tablets per day like you which is 9mgs. They did help within a few days but I have been told they don't prevent flareups but certainly lessen the symptoms. For me it was only thing that helped after taking buscopan colofac immodium etc for years thinking it was functional gut disorder but I eventually got diagnosed a year ago.

I also take questran powder which helps a lot. I think its worth asking your dr or maybe ringing the ibd specialist nurse they are very knowledgeable and can liaise with the consultant if necessary.

Hope you feel better soon.

Take care

Hello. I take Budesonide (Entocort) for Crohns.

I started on 3 pills of 3mg 1x bid

Then tapered to 2 pills for a month, now down to 1 pill at 3mg

I found it worked fast, within two days. I find it does not stop a flare but it does help with daily inflammation in the intestines. It also gives me some relief of fatigue. I also have RA so fatigue is a chronic issue.

I love this drug as it's the only thing that has ever helped my Crohns....but then I haven't had a lot of meds except Buscopan, Olestor etc.

After my MRI this Novembet my doctor will decide what medication she will use to treat my Crohns, the Budesonide is just in the meantime to help me manage.

The drug she said most likely will be Remicade as it will treat my Crohns and RA at the same time. The RHematoid disease drug Enbrel I take does not help Crohns.
