Hi, try not to be frightened about the test!! I've had it done several times. I've had the scope pretty much everywhere it can go including through my stoma. They can give you a small amount of sedation which will relax you. As long as you've got someone to go with you because your not allowed to drive after the sedation. It's natural to be anxious. Usually when I've been waiting there are often people feeling the same way as you. You will be ok.

I had mine done last week and there really is nothing to worry about. I was sedated and apart from a little discomfort it was over in no time and I didn't feel any pain or distress.

Thank you. I'm just scared as I had one 28 years ago and if it went wrong it did. Reaction to pethidine and painful. But ur words have calmed me a bit. Love

Please don't cancel! I have had three colonoscopies and the worst part is the preparation - drinking the lemon laxative!! You will be sedated but not completely out so can watch your insides on the tv screen if you wish. I find this fascinating. Good luck x

I just had mine done last week at the same time as an endoscopy. I was terrified too, first time going under sedation. There was nothing to worry about in the end, everything went smoothly and I was scared for no reason.

You're gonna do great! Don't cancel it, if it wasn't for my colonoscopy I wouldn't have a course of treatment which is now finally helping my issues.

No problem be strong! I empathize with you so much, just remember this is going to help you so much and you won't feel a thing, you won't remember a thing, and you won't be traumatized by it. The sedation is super light and doesn't cause any sort of hangover. You're gonna see right away there was nothing to worry about.

Ok go kick that colonoscopy's butt!

All the best!

Ask for loads of sedation, painkillers and gas and air and it will be fine, i had one a few weeks ago and mine take over an hour cause im difficult but it was fine, just get all the above in large measures.

Hey, it may not be good to recommend to a member to ask for high doses of sedation and painkillers, we don't know how they'd react, they haven't mentioned anything about tolerance to anesthesia. Don't forget we are all different and what works for us may do someone else harm.

There is a trained anesthesiologist on site who's job it is to regulate your sedation, so either way they would work within their guidelines (based of your weight, age, medication, conditions, etc).

I always ask for the maximum they can give me but its the doctor who decides how much they actually give, of course. I had a bad experience with my first one when they didnt give me enough sedation and it was very painful, but I changed hospital and I have been given a lot more which is much better. Better to ask than not ask!

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I can't imagine that was fun, I completely understand why you ask for the max dose!

You must go ahead with it to find out whats causing your problems, had one done and found out I had colitis, and I went ahead and had no medication, just had a very good nurse who kept talking to me. I can understand your worry, but as far as I was concerned it was a piece of cake, best of luck.
