Has anyone been recommended by health proffesionals to follow any specific diet to help control symptoms? And also what helps you in particular.

Crohn's diet
Every person is different and what works for 1 person may not necessarily work for someone else. I would only follow diet/exclusion diet under the care of a health professional as it is easy to miss out certain key nutrients. Inflammatory bowel disease can impair nutritional absorption without following a poorly advised diet.
Under dr & dietitian advice I have been on gluten free, dairy free, lactose free diets non of which made any difference. the only time I have probs is on the occasions I have a very high fat content meal or cooked cream.
Hi Willow, I had my operation 28th may, resulting in colostomy bag. I've just gone back to work and struggling with tiredness to be honest. I do take various supplements. I shall go back to doctors and have my bloods redone again. I did get my copies of my last ones. I haven't seen my surgeon since op as he's been off nearly 4 months himself but am assured I will be getting an appointment. I try follow dairy free as much as possible. But am still eating gluten. I'm still under respiratory clinic. I think maybe it's my body going into shock at going back to work. I don't have a choice as I was only getting stat sick pay and can't afford to stay off any longer.i was just interested in what people have been told about inflammatory diet. As I've been given no information at all about it. Thankyou for your reply😀
Thats early to be going back to work, I understand the difficulty of sick pay though. I hope they are looking after you!
You should ask your consultant to refer you to the dietitian x
Hi Willow yes I will when I eventually get to see my surgeon!! I was supposed to have a follow up but never have due to my surgeon being off work. However colorectal clinic and respiratory clinic have been exceptional and look after me well. It's been a shock to my system going back to work and made me feel poorly but I've sorted it out so I work mon, weds fri and sat for now. 👍
I have Crohns colitis. Currently on a low residue diet which seems to work (fingers X) to keep it under control. I will gradually try to get back to a full diet though as it's very restricting.
Low res = pretty much no fibre so it food doesn't scratch of catch on its way through. Just as well as I can feel nuts and seeds scraping their way along when I eat them (nice!)
Hi Tiny cat, thanks for your reply, I try keep my fibre intake low just incase. Avoid pips!! Sounds awful feeling them like that!! Fortunately I seem to be ok since my op. Just tired being back at work, get light headed and a bit nauseas but no vomitting.ive had colitis in the past so was surprised when they said I had Crohn's!! You have both!! Not the best that is it😒
Have you tried keeping a food diary of what you eat so you can see what is causing a flair up, I suffer with colitis and I find this works for me
Hi elwin thanks for your reply, I've had ulcerative colitis in the past, I'm ok at present, no flare up!! Waiting to see surgeon as the did say it looked like there was still some activity in there after my op. All things considered I'm doing ok. Will do that though if I have problems. I'm working on prevention so am trying to gather as much info as I can .
We are all different but probiotics have been a big help for me and I take Lacteeze before having dairy products.
Hi. I am a newly diagnosed crohns sufferer. Noone seems to tell you anything about diet!!!!.
I am scared to eat. I keep a food diary and have not eliminated any food groups yet except alcohol and spicy food.
Have just had a hellish weekend of vomiting and diorehhea.
HELP!!!
Hi, no one tells you anything Diet wise because the medical proffesion on the whole don't believe diet plays a part with Crohn's!! People with Crohn's however don't always agree with that. It's a big subject to cover for sure. I vomited so much in the early days that it was easier not to eat because I didn't want to be sick anymore. I can only speak for myself but I cut out dairy because it made my stomach flip and then vomit!! I now eat a small amount of dairy and I'm ok with it. I use almond milk now though. I also go gluten free, that was on the advice of a homeopath. She told me I was non Celiac gluten sensitive. I have faith in what she says because she helped my cousin who has Crohn's stay in remission for 15 years. My cousin tried all the treatment available on NHS and she was allergic to everything so found this lady who helped her. It's a hard road to travel and scary too. I have been told I have a very aggressive form of the disease so I have read, researched talked to as many people as I can to try help myself as much as I can. Have a look at Dr Axe YouTube video on Crohn's disease. It may help a little. He gives you some advice on diet. It's difficult because we all tolerate different things and you could be ok with something and it may not agree with me !!
