She will have lots of moody moments. Maybe unexpected tears and anger. She needs someone who can understand and accept her for what she is or has. She will be totally embarrassed about having to go to the loo more frequently than anyone else she knows. She needs someone she can tell but who won't ask.(Unless there are real serious things happening,).

Basically she needs a grandma who is the same age as she is. The only benefit she can look forward to is (unless on steroids)should remain slim. I know this answer, onthe face of it,seems flippant, it isn't. Unless you are medically qualified be one of her non nagging, non judgemental friends.

Thank you I actually am medically trained although not in the field of IBD so I am just trying to gather informed comments from others who are living with this condition.I want to be able tosupport my grandaughter in a positive way, certainly not sit in judgement or replace her friends.

In that case she will be more moody at times, feel sorry for herself, and blame the whole world and its, wife for all her problems. She will also be kind and considerate and more tolerant of others. However she will probably tell the whingers, those who cry because their finger nails are the wrong colour, where to get off. Treat her normally but just by being there for her, will do her the world of good.

I must say that the one thing that got up my nose(i was 11) at the time was people(friends and family) trying to cover every eventuality for me. Let me find out the same way as everyone else, i have an incapacitating disease, well let me push and see how far i can capacitate it. (If capacitate is a word).Just be there for her. As her grandma you'll know when to help and when to stay away and keep out of the way.

GOOD LUCK and remember there are loads oif us on this site , so if she maybe wants to let off steam, or express her feelings for something good or bad, we're not professionals but we're here and we know what she is going through
