Slapping feet

I have this embarrasing problem that after a run my feet seem to be uncontrollable and slap down to the ground. When passing other walkers etc i feel really concious of this and the pain between my ankle joint and foot is awful.

Any ideas?

I was just reading about this in 'Chi Running' (I have a tendency to be heavy on my feet when I tire), the suggestion is to concentrate on picking your feet up rather than landing.
