I brought some Nike running shoes and they cost me £49 they are so light to run in they.'re great. These were a present to myself after 5weeks on the programme. Go on treat yourself good luck with the programme

I've just finished week 4 and decided the time has come to invest in some really good running shoes. Off to Sweatshop in the morning to try out their treadmill ... am expecting to pay £80- £100!

Hi Debsie, I got a pair of Oasic ( think this is right but am comfy just now so can't be bothered to check!) trainers from Sports Direct in the sale for £39.99 and they are great to run in. Have a good look round as I'm sure you should be able to find a good pair in a sale somewhere unless you are going down the road of gait analysis where you would probably have to pay more. Happy shopping!

I went and had gait assessed and tried on several pairs that they recommended. There was quite a bit that they advised on. They recommended me to get a size larger than I would normally wear, so that toes have room to move. Thought I had a good pair, and tried them on the treadmill and ouch! pain in the arches. Tried others and found with a perfect fit, but they recommended another shoe would be better (and a bit cheaper) They ordered them in for me and I went back to try them this morning. Did not fit as well, so tried 1/2 size bigger (now in a 7 1/2 when usually take a 6) and he suggested that I run up and down the road outside, to see how they felt. Fantastic! 85 pounds, which considering all the advice and support I felt was worth it. And, if they are not after wearing them in the house for a while, I can go back for extra help! I now have a pair of Asics, and can't wait to try them out. Good luck in finding the right ones for you.

I also had my gait analysed at Sweatshop, they were brilliant. It was a few years ago when I first thought I'd take up running but I never really got into it then. Got a really comfy pair of Asics, I think they were about £70. I'm just about to start week 8 and they're great. I always wear running socks too as they really help with supporting my arches, other socks don't feel right. Happy running and happy running shoe shopping :-)

got my gait analysis done in dw sports shop. told the sales assistant my budget before running & he was great. sorted out which ones were for me but they were above my budget so he wrote down the "model" no confident that I wouldnt find them cheaper but did manage to get the same ones from an ebay sports shop within my budget. felt a bit guilty but have bought other running stuff since from them so guilt eased :)

definately recommend a size bigger. I made this mistake with my first pair (before I knew about gait analysis) & it cost me 2 toenails. not painful but they just fell off.

& running socks are a godsend. mine were quite cheap from sports direct. £4 for 2 pairs.

happy shopping x

I went to sportsshoes.com, followed their advice on choosing the correct type of shoe, and picked up a pair of Mizuno shoes for £25. Bargain! They're great and have taken me to w9r2 so far. I hope to graduate by next weekend.

Thankyou so much for your replies...I'm going to head off to a local sports shop this afternoon for some "trying on" and then maybe shop around a bit. Will add sports socks to my list too! Xx

I have a neutral gait and wear Asics GT2160 on my second pair of them. Got a real bargain not so long ago in Sportsdirect, they're usually £89-95 a pair and I got them for just under £60, real bargain. My old ones still have plenty of miles left in them but use them for bad weather days or forest track running now.

I went for Brooks Green Silence on environmental grounds but I've been really pleased with them in actual use - although I've recently replaced the laces with elastic locking ones. They were about £40 on Amazon. I am thinking of getting some trail shoes with beefy lugs for mud as I don't run on roads.

There was a TV programme a while back which many here who saw it felt was convincing that there is a load of hype around running shoes and people are paying far more than they need to for features that aren't necessary.
