It works.

There are loads of people on here who, having done no exercise for 10,20,30 or more years, get up and do the programme and are able to run for 30 minutes by the end. Maybe not 5k but 30 minutes definitely.

All the best for your first run. :)

Check out my graduate badge that I got today:-) Proof that it really does work. When I first started I couldn't manage a whole minute running. I avoided reading any posts by people on about week 3 onwards because they seemed so far removed from myself.

Today I ran for 30 minutes, the third time I've managed it. It's still a struggle, I'm still huffing and puffing but now I'm struggling with 30 minutes not 1 minute.

Yes 7 weeks ago I was completely out of breath all through week 1 run 1. 7 weeks later and who ever would believe it I can run non-stop for 25 mins! All this from being a desk bound couch potato 7 weeks ago after not doing any exercise for six months following illness.

I started just last week. I managed ok. My legs ached a bit afterwards but I was working hard enough to know I'd done something. I liked the way I got to take a bit of a break, so I got my breath back and my legs got a rest before running again (well, jogging really). I reckon it will work if you put the effort in.

It's a brilliant programme. I am overweight and not used to a lot of exercise. I now run 6.5km 3 times a week.

Good luck!

Yes it is great programme. I have NEVER done any exercise (I am late 40's) and having started on 12th July and just completed Week 6, Run 2 tonight without any real serious problems. I really advocate the programme.

It really does work! I have already reccomended it to others.

On the very first run i gave up on the first 60 second run but the rest were fine in that first run. I used to never be able to climb a flight of stairs without getting out of breath.

Now tomorrow i am lokking forward to doing my first 30 minute run and i cannot wait!

Good luck!

It works. I was petrified as I'm asthmatic and had always found aerobic exercise of any type extremely hard. I'm also overweight and a bit lazy...or was. Now I can't wait to get out and do my run and I'm on week 5 just about to head off for run 2. As a lot of people have said, if you'd have told me on week 1 that I'd not only be able to run for 8 mins at a time, but actually enjoy it, I don't think I'd have believed you. Jump in and find out for yourself :)

Absolutely it works. Yesterday I ran week nine run one. With no previous experience you really can do it. In week one I was counting down to the end of those minute runs when I could walk again. My legs ached just doing the brisk walkiing at first! But gradually you learn to trust Laura and the programme and week by week it simply works. Just make sure you stick to your rest days.Early on you look ahead and week 5 run 3 looms large as a seemingly impossible leap but it isn't. You have prepared for it and will do it. It was at this point in the plan that I had a holiday in France but I was determined to stick with the plan and found many different places to run early morning before the sun was beating down. The week in the Dordogne was the hardest as I couldnt find anywhere flat and learnt to run uphill(and down). My solution was to look down at the road not ahead at the horizon(as you would normally do) and thereby eliminate the slope visually just concentrating on each step making each step a bit shorter.I don't know if this is correct but it worked for me. If I can do it at 59 then so can you. Incidentally as an asthmatic whose asthma is well under control with the usual inhalers I can add that my breathing has never been clearer since starting the programme. Good luck to all on the programme and just KEEP ON GOING!

It's not just the running, although that is great - I am 5 stone overweight and have never exercised, and I'm just going into week 9. It's also given me pride in sticking to something. Good luck - you'll be fine.

It's an amazing programme and once you get started I'll bet you'll get hooked on running just like the rest of us here on the forum. I hadn't done any exercise for almost 35 years, started this programme and the after the first run of the first week I thought my heart was going to pop right out of my chest. Now I've just completed week 5 today and was able to run for 20 minutes without problems – that's the result of a programme that really works.

You know that voice inside your head that keeps playing over and over, " You really need to exercise, you really should get off the couch and do something, etc etc. Well one of the biggest benefits of getting stuck in to this programme is that that little nagging voice disappears – it's magic!

Yes! I have just completed it today. I'm no natural athlete, but the podcasts have been totally motivating. I can run for 30minutes now, when I started even a minute was too much!

I have just started this week and have done my 2nd one today. I have never been able to do long running ( I was a speed runner at school) so I was very doubtful. I was absolutely amazed I was able to do the first session without quitting any of the way through. I am 58 and have not done any exercise for over 5yrs so PLEASE try it. I couldn't believe how I enjoyed it.

Have faith footballer. I am 58 and haven't run since school and even then I hated every single minute of PE. I've just finished Week 3 and am loving it. It's hard. I sweat and turn puce but can now run 3 minutes non-stop and am looking forward to eunning 30 minutes very soon. It is a brilliant program and the blog community helps so much. Relax and enjoy!

I'm 62 and hadn't run for 45 years before starting this in January. I'm now running 10K. Think that's the answer you were looking for?

It most definitely works! I'm due to graduate this week and the whole plan has been brilliant. The thought of running for 30 minutes just 9 weeks ago frightened the life out of me, but I'm there now! I couldn't have done it without the music and, most importantly, Laura. Somehow she seems to know exactly when I need a bit of encouragement! Go for it! You won't regret it.
