Well that's the price of having one of those fancy doodad Garmin things......
In the last year I have:
1) Run 1166 km
2) Run for 103 Hrs
3) Average speed of 11.3 km/h
4) Used 101000 calories
I suppose the point other than to be able to give my self a bit of a pat on the back is to say this is a "slow but steady" game no big immediate wins.
1166 km is about the cycle distance (not as the crow flies) from Land's End to John O'Groats.
Whilst 101000 calories sounds a lot it is 700 cans of Coke, 400 standard size Mars bars or 150 bottles of wine.
Which made me stop for a second because it suddenly doesn't sound so much........
I suppose it is just what we all know, lifestyle generally is the issue, there are no magic bullets. But we are all here and all doing the right things and that's all we can ask of ourselves right?

LeJog was 1066 for me, back in 2003 (I think), so you're not far off. What an excellent way to spend a couple of weeks too!
As for calories; quite right. It's all about lifestyle, exercise alone won't fix an over-eating problem, only stopping the over-eating is going to fix that!
wow...less than a half a bottle of wine a day...which is about 2 glasses (more or less)....I'm going to have to do a LOT more running....lol
Seriously, really interesting post Greg! I just got one of those new Garmins, the 110. It is just amazing to me the information available to runners today, compared to 25 years ago (my previous life..lol).
Thats great, I have only been at this a few months but love the way these stats rack up. I had a similar thought today, I'm nearly at the end of my weightloss journey (10 and a bit stones down, 1 and a bit more to lose), my run today burned 600 cals, if I continue to run 3 x 600 cal runs a week thats nearly entire days calorie intake gone up in sweat. I know that my desire to keep running longer/faster will give me a much better chance at keeping the weight off for good than all the other changes alone.
It sounds good when you mount it all up Greg. I haven't tried to do that yet - does it total it for you on the Garmin Connect software or where you sitting there with your calculator for ages?
The Garmin stats are just the tip of the iceberg - this year your heart has pumped harder and better, your lungs expanded and sent extra oxygen whizzing round your body, your muscles grew and your internal fat levels decreased. Your blood pressure may have gone down and your 'bad' blood fats decreased. Not bad for 'just running' - oh, and your heart danced after each run. Hoorah!
Didn't even think of getting a Garmin before but now I really want one. Better put it on the list for Santa! This post is also making me have a rethink about wine. Generally have a couple of glasses Fri, Sat, Sun tho not through the week but that does seem like an awful lot of running to burn it off!
I don't drink fizzy and have nasty reactions to chocolate but I do like a nice glass of red. The best that would be for me is every third step is for the wine, allowing one bottle per week but I don't run that far or burn that many calories.......oh dear
Brilliant stats and making them real.
Right, 'significant' birthday coming up and it's gotta be a Garmin. Thanks!
