I also find it hard to run uphill and I set myself unrealistic expectations. I just have to slow down and shorten my stride! Sometimes even walk - and that’s not a bad thing at all.
Maybe you need something different to kick start your enthusiasm. Are all your runs the same? The same (ish) distance in the same time? Perhaps vary your runs. Do some speed intervals. Try them uphill! Go out on shorter, faster runs. Start to increase your distance once a week. The Nike Run Club app is great for lots of different, guided runs.
I was ill over last Christmas and had to take 3 months out. I found it so hard to get back to fitness and did Couch to 5K again. I joined a running group and went to parkrun. Now I’m doing an online coaching plan. It has me doing lots of slow running (which I love) and speed intervals. Sometimes uphill, which I don’t love, but I can see the improvements. I’m loving the plan and it keeps everything fresh and new. I can at last feel my fitness returning and look forward to new challenges every week, even the ones that are hard work.
So yes, it does get easier, but for me I’ve had to put some work and thought into it - perhaps because I’m older 😊
