Good morning, running people.

The coffee is on, the muffins are baking and the pastries are already ready! Some super smoothies and some tasty healthy nibbles too!

Okay, here I am and here you are again I hope...

I have left this post for a couple of days , to give us a full week, to take us into the new month.

Loads going on right now... I am back and forward to Wales, whizzing around like a small whirlwind but running! I have just got run 3 to do of Week 6, before moving on smoothly to the longer runs :) Bliss! Hopefully in a short while!

It is good for body and soul to get out there on a more or less regular basis...:) Happy snail.

Now I have found time still, to check in on all of our friends here. And you are doing absolutely wonderfully! Moving through the programme and letting the runs and the legs build up ! We have got, also, a few more repeaters. Folk like me... building back after a set back of whatever nature and returning to the friendly familiarity of the programme and the companionship and support of all our runners!

One thing though, has struck me... in quite a few of the posts...and that is comments about finding the runs a bit, ( or more), of a struggle... second time around... or third even! There is also a word in those posts too, that sneaks in... and that is the word , stamina!

What is it? Do we need it. Have you got it? Do you want it? Well the answer we hope ,to all of these. Eventually is YES!

Now I am, as you know an old snail... and that Stamina is something that features greatly in my running and my life too. I know what it is... I know I need it... I have got it most of the time and YES I really do want to keep it!

Whether youโ€™re starting any week of a C25K program, repeating bits or all of it or having moved on and are running more. To run comfortably and staying injury free are goals that I feel we would all aim for?

There is no sure-fire way to help boost running stamina, but there are things that may help!

Starting C25K can be a tricky business; for many of us, running may be a new exercise, we are not sure what to expect or how our body will react. This is why checking out the pinned post on How to Run C25K will be so, so helpful, and why, also visiting our amazing Strength and flex Forum is going to be helpful also.

For folk repeating, (like me ), there can be pitfalls also. Yes, we know what is coming, we know how the runs build up...but that may work against us. We were okay the first time, or the second... but this time, why is it so hard, why am I struggling? These questions pop into the head!

Well. What seems to be a common denominator is, trying too hard , expecting too much, too soon ,maybe and forgetting that our whole running body, ( including our mind), needs support and other exercise.

We do need to keep all of ourselves strong, and fit for purpose!

There are, on the S and F Forum, so many links to the kind of stuff, ( I love that word right now), we should be doing to help ourselves. CBDB works so hard for all our forums and she has compiled so much, in the way of useful and impacting exercise. There are quite a few things there from me too, and I shall be posting on this very subject of stamina, there later today:)

In a nutshell here...

Start slowly and build up... small steps have a big impact... be consistent and committed... and..., just run. The more we run, the more our stamina and our strength build up.

Do try too, to keep this thought in the back of your mind, especially if you are struggling, that your running is not for enduring, it is for enjoyment.

Okay, slip off the running shoes, grab your cushion and snack and share. How are you doing right now, really? Be honest, let it all out here, and if you are struggling, what are you doing or going to do about it, because we all do have issues, even small ones and it is so important to recognise that and deal with it.

Looking forward to chatting with you and to seeing some of you later in the Changing Room Chat on the S and F Forum.

Another fantastic post from you Oldfloss, yes stamina is great for running, just as a example I ran a half marathon last Wednesday in just over 3 hours, this morning I ran a 5K in 33:59, if I could have kept that pace last week my time would have been around 2 hours 25 minutes, no way could I have ran that Half Marathon last week at the pace I was running this morning, have a great day ๐Ÿ‘

Hello Al... You know all about stamina, as your runs show us... time for you to sit a while with us and thank you for sharing!

Those running times are excellent and just show us that having the strength and stamina can take our running to the most amazing places...

Thank you for popping in today... you are very welcome, anytime x

๐Ÿ Good morning Floss for me and good afternoon for you! Thanks for this brilliant post that reminds us that the only way to build stamina is to keep running. The beautiful Autumn weather here in Canada proved that for me. I was able to increase time and distance quite easily as I was able to run consistently this past month. Itโ€™s all change for me now but I will post about that later. Lovely just to relax with a cuppa. Xx

Hello and thank you for popping in!

You are clearly having a super time! So good to hear from a fellow runner that the stamina work does pay off!

Being able to run as far as you wish...that has to be good! I shall be watching for your posts as will we all... thank you for this and do call in again... your cushion is always here! x

Oh I love popping in for a chat, a cuppa and a muffin. Yes you're so right about stamina. It's not only putting the time in running but the other stuff too. Along with so many here, I'm delighted with the programmes, advice and support here, so much so, that 8 months in, I'm up to 10k. Happy running ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Hi OF,

Iโ€™m so glad your running is going well and Iโ€™m excited for you that youโ€™re at that stage of the longer runs with no walking intervals, I remember that being my favourite part of ct5k (and I would never have thought it at the start of the programme).

Iโ€™m still on the injury couch with plantar fasciitis ๐Ÿ˜ข itโ€™s been just over 2 months of not being able to run - I couldnโ€™t even walk for the first few weeks but after seeing a physio and doing all the recommended exercises I can at least get out walking ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Hopefully not too much longer on the IC but I will be restarting the ct5k (third time) to get back to my running buddies and races.

Good luck with run 3 of week 6 xx

Hello !

Thank you for calling in...always a cushion here!

Oh gosh, thank you... yes, I remember that first time... You can call yourself a proper runner! I remember jumping in the air and scaring an old lady... quite forgetting I was an old lady myself!!!

I managed to do that very run this morning...thick fog and a chill in the air, but even that could not take away the joy!

It was a good moment again this morning... eight plus years on! I do feel now that I am ready for the lovely relaxed runs inf this morning was anything to go by!

It is not good that you are still on the IC and not running, but! There is always a but.. you are back to walking! That is such a great way to get back into it... and exactly what I did to start getting back to this whole running programme again!

You will get back to this again soon. It is just getting the positive mindset... following all the advice and instructions from the experts and of course, calling in here for a sit and a chat!

Take care of yourself and we shall watch for your return... xxx

Hi! A cuppa sounds wonderful.... A muffin does too but I've just been scoffing Maltesers so I better not ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ I did W9R2 this evening, my first run when it was dark... Apart from another runner startling me coming up behind, it was OK! I'm looking forward to hopefully re-graduating on Friday, all being well

Hello and welcome...Well, this is a new day, so muffins are perfectly in order...fresh ones this morning!

Welcome! Always a cushion here for you!

Well done you on that run! That runner must have given you a jolt and maybe they did not expect to find you either!

Oh my! Nearly there and we shall all be waiting there for you! It is really exciting crossing the finish line and one of the best things? It is a new starting line!!!

I shall be watching for your Graduation post and to seeing you in the Graduate Chat too... I can maybe guess what you will say about the best bot of your C25K journey! If you check the post out you will see what I mean!

Time to rest now, so sit back and just chill! x

Wise words Old Floss. Iโ€™m starting again for the third time and finding week 1 runs hard work, even at super slow pace. Need to be a bit kinder to myself and just do it and enjoy the journey ๐Ÿ˜Š. Great that you are back on track too

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduateโ€ข in reply toRabbit561

Yes... you have it right there... ease back, and yes, be kind to you ! Enjoyment is the thing... Try to relax into the runs... it isn't always easy, but just let the legs do what they do... at whatever pace they choose....

Thank you... it is, as you are finding, or will find... so good to be back xxx

Many thanks for your inspiring post Floss! Stamina is important and I think getting the mindset right is so important too. Some days I look out of the window at the rain and think ... ugh no not today as I prefer running on grass. So I do a youtube indoor workout instead. I feel so much better afterwards x

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduateโ€ข in reply toCassie_7

You do what is right for you and that is perfect! The mind set... oh my goodness yes! It really does have to become part of it all!

Wet grass can be a joy or a very wet trudge! A workout indoors may not yield the delights of Nature...but it can really help with the stamina!

Thank you for popping in today! Always a cushion here for you!

Thank you for such a nourishing post, and I can almost smell the coffee and muffins. I just finished week 8, still need to pinch myself! It was a beautifully sunny afternoon and I found myself marvelling at the great outdoors as well as the C25K program - it really works! Somehow, being told I 'only' had 8 minutes left to go felt doable when it wasn't long ago I didn't think I would be able to run for a total of 8 minutes. This message board and the supportive community is a big part of why the program works for me xx

Yes..the forums and our fellow runners...they are, simply the best! And you are one of them.

Thanks for popping in...now just lean back snd reflect on a run, well run x
