5k Run

So after starting the C25K in April, and after many bumps in the road, I had one run left to do to complete the programme when life happened. Two sick children, this temperament back of mine and then a lovely holiday. So I never got around to completing the last run and graduating ☹️I did, however, manage to get back to running after 4 weeks but used a different app to set distances to run and I actually found this a better way of running and got to the 5k after 4 or 5 runs.

Yesterday I took part in my first 5k run. I finished 23rd out of 30 people but did it in 32min 17sec which I am happy with. I did however have to stop running and walk to recover a couple of times which is obviously because I was going too fast as my previous 5k runs had been 34/35 mins but I found it difficult to pace myself with other people running.

I still find it extremely difficult to find the time for a run but I am thinking of booking another 5k run just for something to work towards and to get me to put on those running shoes when I get the chance.

I would like to thank everyone on this forum who offered advice or kind words during my journey so far. It definitely makes a difference to know you're not the only one that has struggled but also to be guided on how to move forward. I know I would not still be running if I had not found this community so thank you again.

And for anyone at the start of the C25K or to anyone having a tough run all I can say is "You've got this!!" Read the advice on here. "Slow down" was the best thing I read and find your comfortable pace (after my run yesterday this is clearly something I still have to work on) and trust the programme. If I can go from not being able to run to the end of my street to running 5k then anyone can.

Keep up the good work everyone and keep on running 🏃‍♀️ xx

Well done you and thanks for posting this, to encourage our new runners! Proof positive that this works!

That is a great time for your 5K and well done for that race! You can move on now at your own happy pace and just enjoy your runs, so many ways to go and you choose... and as Coach Bennett on the NRC guided runs says, each finishing line is a new starting line !

Looking forward to see where you get to next!

🍏 So sad that you couldn’t do that last run! However fantastic that you ran a 5K yesterday! Congratulations 🎉 The feel good factor will keep you looking for another run!

What a lovely post, it'll inspire others to run. As to time, when I was working long hours and had little time I would often go out walk for 5 minutes, run for 5 minutes, turn and do the same in reverse, back home in 20 minutes not too hot and sweaty not too tired to carry on with my evening. Have fun training for your next 5k race
