A cautionary tale...

A few months before Christmas last year I started to get really bad pains in my hip. I was referred to a physio at my GP surgery, she diagnosed Osteo Arthritis. Sent me for an x ray which showed nothing wrong with my hip... Hmmm? I decided to check my shoes, these have done barely 200K, I track them carefully on Garmin Connect. You can see that the treads are hardly worn.

I've had a replacement pair, and my hip pain is all but gone...I tend to think the diagnosis as an easy option because of my age...remember to check your shoes carefully friends!

Hi, this is my first time posting so HI EVERYONE! Yeah I have been suffering for months with Plantar Fasciitis (got very flat feet)which made even walking very uncomfortable. Was wearing walking boots and trainers thinking they were giving me support but how wrong I was. Bought a pair of skechers arch-fit and wow what a difference, have since been wearing my skechers I bought and was keeping clean from last year which are now trashed as been wearing them to walk dogs etc and though it hasn't gone completely I now have less pain in feet, knees and hip and even started running (got to wk1 run 2) which was totally impossible before. Morale of the story - do not take shoes for granted they can make such a difference to your lower body health! Gillane x

Great advice CG2. I’m feeling so many aches and pains right now which I was chalking up to my new life stage (perimenopause is so joyful 😩) but perhaps a closer look at my runners is in order!

Totally agree, I have osteoarthritis in the balls of both feet and some days it can be so painful. It's absolutely crucial to get the right fitting and type of shoe as it makes such a difference. Funny enough one of my running buddies had a real painful hip a few weeks ago and the physio reckoned it could have been down to her shoes which were fairly new, but clearly not suited to her feet.

She changed her running shoes and hasn't had pain since so, that's really powerful evidence of getting the right type of shoe.
