Starting again after broken foot!!

Hi everyone

I started C25K earlier in the year and just loved it! I am 56 years old and not terribly fit but had always wanted to run and this gave me the confidence to do it. I loved every run in the cold and rain and even snow! It was awesome!!!

At the start of Week 7 I slipped on an icy pavement on the way to the field to run.

I ended up with a broken foot and 6 weeks with a big black boot. I can’t begin to explain how devastating this was. Also the fact that after the boot was off I was told it was another 8 weeks till I could run 😩. I have had to have physio and exercises as when the boot came off my legs didn’t just go back go normal! It has been really hard work and makes you realise we really shouldn’t take mobility for granted!

Saturday, after lots of exercises, I started W1R1 again. OMG I did it!! After 14 weeks it was amazing!!! I felt I could have done more but didn’t dare as my body has to build up again but it was fantastic! So much easier than the first time which gives me confidence after doing nothing for so many weeks! I have been following the forum still all this time and have to say what a wonderful site it is. I don’t do Facebook etc but this forum is so inspiring and positive.

Thanks so much to Chrimson51 for her support and encouraging messages. We were on the same week before my fall and to hear about her completing was amazing. Reading about the next batch of runners now is also very inspiring and shows how so many of us have the same doubts or questions but also elation that we CAN do this!

Off to get ready for W1R2 🏃🏽‍♀️ ☺️

What a horrible and unfortunate accident, but what an amazing attitude to restarting! You are an inspiration to keep going even after setbacks. Best wishes and good health!👟👏😀

Thank you!!! After discovering and loving running at this late stage it was so awful to be stopped. What kept me going was by then I knew I could do it so would do it again 🤞🏻.Thank you for your good wishes 😊

Well done and glad that your have recovered from your broken foot. I started again after a 2 yr break. I got to W5R3 but I managed to lock my fib at both the knee and ankle and because nobody could diagnose it got a lot worse as I was still trying to walk with it. 2020 got away as I had a series of serious chest infections and of course had to continually self isolate. However I'm back and on W2R2. So far so good 🙂

Thanks very much for your rely. My goodness that sounds awful!! Well done for getting back to it...that’s a huge achievement after what you have been through with your leg and then chest infections 😩

Isn’t it fantastic to be back after thinking you will never be able to get your legs/foot working as they used to?

Keep it up, steadily, as I hope to 😊🤞🏻

Oh definitely. I missed it the whole time and couldn't wait to get back out again. Good luck for an injury free second attempt 🤞🙂
