I am paying more attention to increasing my cadence and listening to the music. I'm at Week 8, is the cadence of the music with Laura on the podcast, mentioned anywhere?
What is the cadence on the podcasts? - Couch to 5K
What is the cadence on the podcasts?
There are lots of apps available that can tell you how many beats per minute there are in any piece of music.
Thanks, yes, but right now I am using the podcast version and cannot use my own music choice AND listen to Laura😀The other version is not available here🇨🇦😀
Get a BPM app, play the podcast, it will tell you how many BPM in that piece of music.
IannodaTruffe 😲another learning curve haha, thank you I had not realised I could do that.
No that doesn't work, the app needs the music to be stored on my phone, not in the podcast. 🤔
I found this list in an old post, it's "not all the music, but a good chunk of it. " apparently. You can try Googling the track name + "bpm" 😊

This isn't a direct response, but is germane to your question. After C25K I too initially went down the BPM route but one day I experimented with a spoken word podcast instead and, for me, it was very freeing to do so. My approach (and I know it isn't the same for all) now is that I'm out running for health and enjoyment and have no need to hone my technique to become a model of running perfection, so I do still listen to music on some runs but no longer feel the need to match my cadence to the BPM.
Pugwash I will get there I'm sure.,maybe quite soon. The more information I find on the web, (some very conflicting) about all things running, the more I think it will be better to do as you do, run and enjoy the scenery and music or spoken word. I will continue to use music and BPM with the help from others here while I re-do Week 9 just to see if I can improve on my own distance over last time. Thanks
Hi coolfemme , I used the podcasts. From memory the tracks had varying bpm, so won't be much use if you're looking for consistency and really want to work on cadence.
Though speaking as someone who didn't measure any aspects of her runs until after C25K graduation, I wouldn't worry about cadence until you've graduated. And even then it's a choice - I've been running almost eleven months now and don't know what my cadence is!
Cmoi thank you, I only recently researched cadence because it's tracked on the app I use. I was wondering about the music on the podcast only because I tend to run in time and so that would affect my cadence. That leads me to wonder if the podcasts were designed to be a bit slower beat music for the early runs and increase through them. I'm curious about the whole process now of running using bpm. But the more I read the more complicated it seems - add in stride, breathing, posture so much involved. When I forget the music and just move it seems to work okay too. I've only been at this since last October, graduated then started again recently. 😀
I dabbled with bpm after finishing C25K and found I was running at about 140bpm. The following podcasts: speed, strength and stamina pushed me to about 160bpm. Try googling ’tunes with 140bpm’ and see how the pace feels. There are lots of sites out there with lists of tunes at different speeds. You’re bound to find some tunes that you like. I recently listed my cheesy tunes at 140 bpm. I’ll try and find it and copy it over
Found it!

Frizzbomb67 that's amazing and I actually recognise lots of those, thank you for taking so much time. I don't think I have recognised any of the podcast music, I'm 73 so not a surprise. When "When I'm 64" came out I bought the record, it was too far away to imagine lol. 140bpm is about where I'm at.
Cmoi and Frizzbomb67 Having read all of your advice and searched through apps and tried several I found it was tedious to choose a song and wait for the app to decide bpm then choose another. There had to be a better way. There is, it's PaceDJ. This one does all the work for me. It's made for walkers, runners or cyclists. Just fill in some details about age range ,height range, speed (slow/med/fast) then allow access to your own music and it plays everything you have that fits at the bpm it chose, for me it was 141. I can increase or decrease that too. The paid version will also track and do intervals for a couple of bucks a month. IannodaTruffe roseabi Pugwash
