Move to daily running

I am 10 weeks post completion of Couch to 5K and completed my second run of over 10K at the weekend (11.1km in 1 hour 3 minutes). I have been running every other day during this period (just a couple of missed days due snow / ice over Christmas). Most of my runs are 6 or 7km.

My goal is to complete a half marathon this year at some point (even if it is solo running) and I am aiming to increase my long run each week by 1km to build up to this.

I also wondered at what point people start to introduce 2 days running in a row - with weather and work it would be easier to occasionally run 2 days in a row but I know the day between is important so I don’t want to risk injury having got this far...

For those who have been in the journey longer than me, when did you start running without always having a rest day (I would ideally like to run 4 days per week which means I would usually have a rest day between runs but once every 2 weeks I would miss it). Many thanks for any recommendations!

This article gives you some guidance runnersworld.com/runners-st... and it suggests a minimum of six months running alongside plenty of aerobic strength work.

If you do run consecutive days increase your training load using the 10% rule and never follow a hard run with s hard run.

Always bear in mind that any increase in running load is an increase in injury risk.

Take care.

Thank you - I will read this but I guess I should hold for another month or so before planning to run 2 days in a row on anything more than a very occasional basis. I definitely do not want another injury having taken 2 years to get back to this point after an Achilles rupture..!

Always better to err on the side of caution. If you are going to week on week increase your long run distance, then maybe now is not the time to introduce more frequent running. Perhaps after a period of consolidation when you hit your target.

Thanks - yes this sounds a good option.

Hi Minimoose , I increased distance to HM without running on consecutive days.

While I don't have fixed days for running - that doesn't work for me - I was generally running three times a week. However, I haven't been out since New Year's Day due to snow and ice.

Thank Cmoi and good luck once you can get back to running safely. I missed 3 running days due to snow / ice but thankfully it has mostly cleared here now and it is a bit warmer again for a week or so now. Hopefully the same for you soon!
