Pain in stomach after running

I could google it but I’d probably read that I’d need a triple heart bypass or something... the last two times I’ve been running, after an hour or two, I seem to get a pain in my stomach on the left hand side, which lasts into the night. I was just wondering if anyone had experienced similar or if anyone knew why this could possibly be? I’ve not changed anything since I started running.. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes, I have. Check you're drinking enough. 2 litres per day is a minimum. Also make sure you have enough fibre in your diet.

At one point before I realised this, I had impacted stools, which is one reason why I stopped running in April. (The other was the medicine I was on at the time.)

Thanks for this. I’ve been drinking, I think I’ve drunk slightly more if anything. Fibre, will check that out, maybe not enough fibre or too much..? Will have a read 🙏🏻

Not enough fibre is usually a problem. Sweating and breathing heavily means you lose more fluid that way than if you'd been sedate during the day.

One way to judge if you're deficient in hydration is to check the colour of your pee. You're aiming for a pale straw yellow colour. If you've taken vitamin C supplements that can confuse things.

Issywhizz ok so have you had a stitch whilst running? Slow it down cured ✅ have you perhaps strained a muscle perhaps?

Hi, nope it’s not a stitch. It comes on a few hours after a run, when I’m home. I’m wondering if it’s digestion related, in relation to a run. I have no knowledge of the impact of digestion and running 😊

Well normally it's common to be able to eat after a run, but beforehand it's advised to let food digest, and not run in perhaps an hour of eating

Yep hadn’t eaten. It’s a mystery 🙈

If it persists Issue I'd get checked over! To be safe

I had the same problem back in the summer, doctor recommended more water, fibre and a mild laxative for a couple of weeks. It worked.
